weak brakes?

I have noticed that the brakes on my 996 C2 dont stop as well as the ones on my Benz C350 sport.... is it possible that the ones on the benz are better?

Both are OEM

What do you mean "don't stop as well"- brake fade? no ABS kicking in? tires skidding on fast decelleration? pedal shuddering? spongy pedal? Please be specific on what you are experiencing. Typically pcars have excellent brakes.

When were the brakes last replaced and fluid changed?

Just when i brake harder than usual, the braking distance is longer & requires more effort on the pedal to make it stop. The brakes & fluid are original, the car is an 04 with 15K miles on it.

Might be time to change your brake fluid. Braided lines will firm up the pedal as well.
I don't think there is anything wrong, if you stomp those brakes your pcar will stop in a shorter distance than your benz more than likely. If you don't feel the ABS kicking in you're not braking hard enough
A pcar will inherently have more "manual" feel to it vs a sport/cruiser car. The benz brobably has a larger brake assist module which requires less input effort from the driver. Downside is less feedback to the driver.

The benz and the pcar are really two different types of cars IMHO. If you really feel something is not right take it to a good shop and have the brakes looked at.

That is part of the problem.

Other question is the tires on the car, it makes huge difference. Glazed rotors?

Good way to put it P0rsch3, it feel more manual & requires effort, where the benz feels like its automatic or something. lol. I dont think anything is wrong, but just feel like it requires more effort & so maybe i am not pressing hard enough since i drive my benz daily.

tires are Michellin PS2 sport, i dont think the rotors are glazed...

Must be just me used to the cushy feel of the benz.

^ yeah that is probably it. I notice the same thing just switching between my CTT and my 997. The CTT requires less manual effort.

Installing stainless braided brake lines at each wheel will help firm things up a bit, but overall it's not neccesary. Knowing the car is the most important part so go out and stomp the brakes a few times to get used to the response.

PS you should change your fluid anyway- 2 years is the recommended service interval IIRC. Use "Super Blue" brake fluid- I think that is the best.

Inexpensive place to have that done is www.ef1motorsports.com - Call and ask for Fab, tell him Kurt referred you. Nice guy. Located near you.

p0rsch3 hit it right on the money. The Benz has brake assist (BAS) resulting in a more drastic engagement when the brakes are stomped upon. The P-car will be a little more involved in getting the same result, not bad, just a different feel.

Change the fluid, it's 2 years overdue.

I'm not a Merc guy, but are the brakes on modern Mercs purely electronic? If that's the case the pedal "feel" in the merc is purely synthetic so the feeling you get with the 911 is completely different.
