hey heres another statistical question, i was thinking about relocating to Syracuse NY in january. I have grown up in SoCal and lived here all my life (sunny socal where the average lows in the winter are 62 degrees LOL and average highs in july are 99 degrees)...anybody wanna tell me what PERCENTAGE of the year my 996 will sit in the garage under a car cover waiting to be unleashed once the snow stops? And on a side note, is moving to Syracuse North even a good idea for a soCal guy like me?
Ben i agree...the warm weather and beaches I will miss....but after seeing the home prices there (DIRT CHEAP) and getting a job offer there, I thought "why not?" its different and there is 4 seasons rather than the 2 in California....summer and very summer. LOL
As a transplant here in SoCal and one who was born and spent lot's of time in the Northeast, get ready for a long winter season with lots of snow in Syracuse and some real cold weather. I left Boston when it began to feel like 8 month winters and 2 month summers with lots in rain in between.
Plan on putting your Pcar in the garage for the winters as you will get snow storms in Syracuse in excess of 12" quite regularly.
All that said, best of luck to you and will look forward to you posting here your experiences in Syracuse around Jan 15th next year after you have had a fill of the winter there........LOL
Regards, Demosan
I grew up in Rochester which is 1 hour west of there. Summer is only about 3 months. The fall is very beautiful if you have never lived anywhere with a good fall. Spring is rainy. Winter is... well you will find out. Lake effect snow is not your friend. That being said cost of living is very cheap compaired to where you are now. I would highly reccomend getting a boat to use on one of the Finger Lakes. There will be plenty of nice roads to enjoy your p-car.
P.S. look where I live now... that might tell you something :P
lake effect!!!
well i have googled many many articles and images on winter/snow in Syracuse. And you guys are all correct (dont blame u for being in FL now by the way) It is not pleasant!!! Everyone warned me and i should probably listen and stay in Cali, maybe go north to Washington. When i read Winter prep and snow tires for this post i figured i should look into it as well, but im starting to think twice. Wikepedia had some helpful info...like 17 degree winters and 75 degree summers (not my cup of tea). I will give it some serious thought before going out shopping for a home out there next week. Thanks everyone, very very helpful info. Did we get an answer for winter tires yet for danrx3? is he a pharmacist by the way? cuz i am.
