Annoying oil spots inside windows
Annoying oil spots inside windows
All righty now
I've had this fine machine for about a year now. Purchased with 11k miles and now it has 16K on it.
Every time I roll down either window I get these perfectly round oil spots when rolled back up.
One would think by now it would dry out but noooo it's not even shown signs of it.
If only my wi...uh...never mind
Is this normal?
Any solutions?
For now I keep a rag in the ashtray so I can wipe off when done driving

It's the window regulator. I've had the same problem on my Boxster and Carrera.
If it's under warranty, the dealer will replace it. It will be fixed for a few months, then it comes right back.

I had the prob with my Boxster and had the regulators replaced. after a bit of time, it happened again. took it in and the dlr removed the felt pieces that were smudging the window. no. the window is not loose with out these felt pads. the boxster is now free from smudges, but my 911 has the problem.
my dealer said it was a normal occurrance for the lubricant to seep from the reulators and get on the felt pads (brand new regulators 6 mo. ago btw). they said the fix was to clean it off.
Oh My God....I thought I never see a post about this problem. Glad to know it is normal cause I have the same problem too. My fix is to roll the window down and back up quickly and it doesn't happen.

felt pads, had this issue on my 996 as well.
Tip: buy a pad of 1/2" felt round thingies from Home Depot. They have adhesive back.
You can use a couple of long thin picks and remove the old ones through the top crevice with the window down, and stick on the new ones. pain in the azz though, did this one time. It is easier if you pull the door panel. Next time I just removed the felt pads and left them off. Issue permanently resolved. I had no issues with my window tint or anything with the pads removed.
In hindsight, I would have replaced them with thin rubber pads which do not oil-soak.

Thx to all
Great tip porsch3
For now I'll take the just live with it route.
I know if I don't take the window ALL the way down I have no oil spots. Just another way to work around it
