GT3 Sway Bar On...thoughts inside

Well, I threw the sway on tonight and if you have wheel ramps and an impact wrench is about a 10 min job. It's really amazingly simple.
So I got it on and did the "Creeping Death" test. The Creeping Death test is I throw on Metallicas creeping death and there's an abandoned grocery store parking lot I hit and have a mini auto-x. It's East Dallas so cops are just happy to see a car NOT on 22's.
The understeer is definatly gone. It's on the softest setting and there's a bit of oversteer in there when you really crank it. All in all for 90% of the applications the car feels neutral with a little less roll to it. The rear end is defiantly stiffer. I think the perfect match for this sway would be a slightly larger one in front too - I'm not sure if they make something between a stock sway and a GT3 sway but if they do there's no doubt in my mind that would bring the car to perfect neutral.
So all in all a good mod for $100 but there - like everything else - is room for improvement

Per my comments on the original purchase post, the OEM Sport/M30 front sway bar gives you a 9.58% stiffer front. That would be the perfect compliment IMHO since you are not adding/ modding the other suspension parts. The GT3 front is going to be serious overkill and bring the understeer back in spades since it's about 78% stiffer than the OEM bar.

TDK - you're probably right. At this point oversteer > understeer any day of the week but neutral is the ultimate goal

You can reuse the original droplinks or opt for heavier or solid ones. He got it from Craigslist in Dallas per his other post.

I agree that the GT3 sway may be overkill right now. But if you intend to do a full suspension upgrade in the future, it would be a waste of money to upgrade the front sway bar in steps. I did it stepwise, and am on my 3rd suspension now. Not the cheapest route... And, if you had both GT3 sways, you could run the rear on full stiff and the front on full soft and the car would be drivable - maybe a bit better, maybe a bit worse. But definitely drivable.

I would keep your eye out for a good deal on a used GT3 front sway. But keep in mind, you'll need new drop links, so try to get them at the same time. [BUT DON'T get AP drop links. Do a search regarding AP Drop links here (and on Rennlist) and you'll see why.] Tarret makes great adjustable drop links. Lots of track folks use them.

As Knight mentioned in the other thread, there are many variables to getting your suspension set up right. There are a few people here in DFW that can assist getting it right. The Ruf guys are great, and so is John Gladwill at Boardwalk.

The slippery slope has started Mod button, engaged.

You might also want to try running the 295's or 305's the next time you do a rear tire swap. This might also get you that last little bit since it will dial out some of the understeer as well. Per the other post, you might also want to soften the front tire pressures and raise the rears a tad too in the interim.

I'm running 285's in the rear now too and yes Tom I've got my eye out for an upgraded front sway. Ugh, here we go...

Just map out your ultimate plan and buy accordingly. If you're staying stock on the shocks and springs, you can probably correct the last little bit relatively easy and not at a great cost. If you are going to run coilovers down the road, buy the front GT3 bar and new droplinks around the same time or find them cheap and shelve them until the other parts are in place to properly dial everything in .

+1. Great advice. Don't start buying crap unless you know what you ultimately want. Porsche parts aren't cheap.

Oh, I'll keep my eye out for stuff you "need." lol.

Thanks Tom, you're amazingly "giving".

I'd like to upgrade the front sway and since it's a "daily" (I work from home) that would be all the suspension work I am going to do.
Here's the direction I see the car going over the next 2-3 years
- No engine mods for two years
- I can see a taco wing in my future
- Front sway
- Speaker upgrade

So, not too bad. Of course I can resist anything but temptation
