Back windows on cab

My back windows do not go up when top down. I have seen other cabs with rear windows up. Any comments or fixes. Thanks

This is standard for US cars (thanks DoT). RoW can do this. You can get aftermarket equipment to enable the windows SmartTop

SmartTop is your answer- No cab owner should be without it, seriously good upgrade.

A low tech option is depress the switch where the top latches to the front. The switch is located above the rear view mirror in the light assembly. Just put you finger in the small oval opening and depress while pushing the window switches.

I also have Smart Top and Smart Remote and would not own a without them. You can raise and lower your top with the car off with the remote and close the top while driving at less than 20 MPH.

you don't need the smart top just to do this. just insert your finger into the center sensor located where the top connects to the car frame. Your windows should up then when you use the window up button.

FYI, you can also raise and lower the top when moving if you snip the speed sensing wire. I use my remote to put the top up and down as a result. It's free and takes 10 minutes. Take a look at renntech.org for instructions. Good luck

Its renntech.

Just try to locate it first and if you're not able - I'll look there. As I recall, I looked at a few different links on there to come up with the certain fix.

I am not sure what OP means from the above post.

I was just on their website and I can't quite figure out why you would want both. The Remote seems to do it all.

I know I'm missing something, just not sure what.

I bought the set off another board member who was selling his car.

My basic understanding of the difference between the two is: The smart remote gives you control of the windows and top via the factory key fob. You can open and close the top when the car is parked using the remote. The smart remote also allows you to enable the internal alarm sensor when the top is open and the car is locked. The Smart Top unlocks the roof function to allow for 1 touch opening and closing while parked or moving and control of the rear windows with the top down. It also allows for auto lock feature that locks the doors when you begin driving. And opening and closing windows when the car is parked and turned off

In short: the smart remote allows you to program the factory two button key fob to control more functions. The smart top allows you one touch control of the top and rear windows.

I see others appear to have gotten similar functionality by modifying their cars with out using these units, so you may want to check those mods out first. If not I would highly recommend the two products I outlined.

I do believe that the 04 cab roof control was modified to be more like the newer 997 Cab top.

Oh ok. Well then it seems like the smart top is the way to go for all the added functionality, IMHO.

The latest SmartTop for 997 has all of the features integrated from RemoteTop. There is now only one unit to buy and it is an easy DIY. List is $499

It looks like the 996 units are still separated into two units- SmartTop for all of the one-touch goodies and RemoteTop for the remote control. List is $299 / $299

I can't tell you how handy it is to just turn off the car, get out, hold down the lock button and roof / windows close right up- Same with coming back to car on a nice day, hold down unlock and everything just opens right up

By far the handiest feature is the "one touch" up/down operation of the interior top button. It really blows trying to hold / release the button.

Damn, now I have to buy both!

Oh well, if I didn't spend it here, Nancy Pelosi will take it in a few months anyway.

I guess I don't understand. I do the same you just said without the smart top. All I did was cut the speed sensing wire as stated in renntech and installed a cheap alpine remote with actuator - cost about $70. But, I have a seperate remote - so I have the key and a dangling remote. However, I can see the value of having the same functionality in one remote with porsche key which in my opinion would be worth the added expense. If I were to do it on the 997, I'd go with what you state. But, will that work on the 996 with its remote? Someone should try this and post.
