HELP! Any good Porsche performance shops near Los Angeles, CA? coilover install 4 c4s
hello! well i just bought a 03 c4s and already wanna drop it on some coils. the only shop i currently know of is Speed Gallery in studio cty.
its either the H&R street coilover kit or the JIC cross... the lowest prices i got was $2700 installed/aligned/adjusted height for the H&Rs and $2500 for the JIC cross from vivid racing plus another $850 for install/align/adjustat speed gallery. im trying to budget as im also looking at some wheels to follow right after...
a couple of questions???
1. im not gonna track the car anytime soon but sounds like something i will do later down the line... should i just shell out the extra $650 for the JICs or go with the non-adjustable H&Rs. i know everyone would go with the no-brainer= JICs(camber plates, pillow mounts, adjustability, etc...), but someone help the H&Rs out. =)
2. i know the JICs sell the struts seperately just in case u blow them out. any other companies that sell just the struts for their coilover systems?
3. any GOOD Porsche shops within a 25mile radius from LA??? i wanted to get more labor quotes b4 making my decision!
THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

www.ef1motorsports.com is where I have had my last 2 pcars done, including alignment. Very low price and very good work. Give a call to Fab, the owner, really nice guy. They are located off Cherry Avenue in Signal Hill / Long Beach near the BMW dealership.
A little off topic, but when you want to track the car, this is a great club. They have a Short Track Series (STS) that is great way to ease into it. You can have a ton of fun with a stock car with street tires in this series. But be careful, it's addicting!!!!!
As for shops, ditto on Lucent and here are a couple other options:

EF1 is well respected on South LA.
Just be sure to get the car corner balanced, and as someone else said, consider the PSS10's.

We do alot of strut installs and have experience with JIC, The JIC struts are great and you get alot of adjustability along with them & the dual spring system gives you a smoother ride than you would have had with a single spring system. I'd recommend JIC, our installation rate is more forgiving on the wallet than speedgallery.

My top worked without issue when I put it in the shop. Car was delivered with the top down, but when I got home, less than 10 miles from the shop, the top would not go up. I called immediately that night. I tried Porsche's emergency manual procedures to no avail. After removing everything from the car, I had to spend the night running up and down the elevator to make sure the car was safe.
Returned to the shop early the next day. After some diagnosis I found out the problem was the retaining circlip had been knocked off the post and the rod that operates/moves the clamshell was wedged underneath the post. The circlip was found underneath the molded carpet behind the rear seats that surrounds suspension and convertible top plumbing in the well next to the top motor. They denied doing it and told me that it was already like that or I knocked it off it or it happened on the way home

They said it was a normal wear thing on convertibles; BS! The tech forced the rod over the post and manually raised the top with the emergency protocol. The problem was the top was no longer able to operated electronically with the dash button. They estimated my repair cost would be upwards of $500 to repair it through Downtown LA Porsche since they couldn't fix it. I called the service manager at Beverly Hills Porsche since I have a relationship with them and they had a tech that handles all of their top work repair the top at my expense.
I asked the BH Porsche tech how the problem happened and he told that the clip had been knocked off either during the AOS repair or the rear shock swap; period. This is not an area that is normally accessible by the driver/ owner; the clamshell has to be moved backwards to even see it. Also the fact that the circlip was found underneath the molded carpet and in the well next to the left side convertible top motor spoke for itself. Had it come off on my way home, it would have been on top of the carpet not underneath it.
The money I saved going there was negated by the fact that my top came back broken. One would have thought the fact that I had dropped ~$2,800 p/l with them not counting the supplied parts would have warranted better back end service once this problem surfaced; it did not and I have yet to receive any follow-up since late August, early September. This is my 3rd Porsche and proably 15th plus car. I don't mind paying for service, but I HATE being BS'd.

Definitely would not recommend for suspension work if you have a Cab. I took my car in for a suspension swap, Air Oil Seperator replacement, muffler swap and etc. Spent $1,800 on labor, bought $1,000 in parts from them and I supplied another $2,400 in parts for a total of ~ $5,200 in work p/l. A fair price and most of the work was performed satisfactorily, but my top was not working when my car was returned.

I do appreciate your attention I do think your way is “out of line” as in leaving our shop your last words for our tech was “I’ll check with my other guy and follow up with you”…. To which we’ve never heard anything back.
True we were the last shop to service your vehicle and we had no reason to remove the convertible release mechanism you’re speaking about. Not only did our tech spend a time helping diagnose and trouble shoot the problem but he actually checked your top at least twice after the install. The clip your vehicle was missing during the follow-up inspection may have been off prior to doing any work on the vehicle.
I do remember my tech asking what we could do and I did authorize the labor to be free of charge.
The vehicle you brought into us had clear evidence of water damage when we remove some of the under panels and gained access. Most of the suspension was difficult to remove in fear of breaking a bolt and it took our tech much-much longer to work on giving the condition of the vehicle. I do remember sharing this information with you and you did indicate that you had just purchased this vehicle from Florida and didn’t have an prior knowledge of this.
Once again I did appreciate your business but to come and drag it here on the forums without the opportunity of a follow-up isn’t what I would expect from a long-time Porsche owner you indicate here to be. By the way for the amount of work we performed at around $65 / hour I think we were extremely fair to you but that’s neither here nor there at this point in time. Also to clarify we performed the service work with your supplied parts so the labor is what you were billed for.
I wish you luck with your vehicle,
-Eli

Looks like you just got BS'd again...
I'm sure it happened EXACTLY like you said it did.
I could already sense that these guys were FOS, but now it's confirmed.
Thanks for saving others from a bad experience.
I'll keep my business at LUCENT.
Just because I didn't agree that drop-in filters were better than cold air kits here: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/cayenne/149785-anyone-use-v-flow-intake-sharkwerks.htmlAnd here again by trying to post against me because some has applied comps on the caliper work here: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/cayenne/150897-painting-break-calipers-suggestion.html
Arling is a good guy, so I do hope he does take your money which I'm sure will be minimal just reviewing most of your 45 post.....

I have a unique talent at spotting people who are narcissistic, immature, and FOS...and I rest my case...
