this is why i get scared when i hear "Tracking your CAR"
I echo the sentiments above. I have been to the track several times...one just needs to keep themselves in check and NOT drive over one's alleged ability. Of course, you still have to overcome that fear of changing your oil...baby steps sweetie.
Just teasing. Really, don't be afraid...once you get out there, go slow and BE receptive to what the instructors have to tell you and leave the ego back in the paddock.

The Pilot Sport Cups have no traction in the wet
That was his mistake
Do not be afraid to track your car. If it's raining and I have my PSCs on, I go home very very slowly
If it's dry OTOH, the PSCs are awesome!!!

I've never run my PSCs in the rain on the track, though I did run them back from the track in a rainstorm. They were fine, just knocked it down a few notches.
I have run Kumho V700s and Toyo RA1s on the track in the rain. Both did fine, and offered more grip than street tires *provided* that there is no standing water. It sounds like PSCs are different animials though.
Don't let the photos scare you. I've been to quite a few track events, and the major danger is yourself. I have yet to see a car-car accident, but rather, single car off-track excursions the fault of which totally with the driver. Drive w/i your abilities.
Finally, I've never seen a big off in the green (novice) run groups. Given the way most DEs are structured, it's highly unlikely that you will get into trouble your first few times out. It's the intermediate drivers who get into trouble, particularly those solo'd with limited solo experience.
Cheers.
