design of headlights on the new BMW5 series, I can not get to like the new 5 , even when i force myself, now Porsche 997 headlights just dont' do it for me. I like the current look of the headlights (our headlightS).

Obviously to ea his own but...... personally I believe the 2002-on integrated head lamp (Turbo headlamp) is a small work of art.
To now go backward & seperate out those components (running lights, turn signal, head lamp) and cut out the body to insert a strip light at each corner......well calling it 'retro' is the nice thing to call it

If anything, this 997 design should have followed the 993.........doing it now is so obviously a 5 yr late reaction to the 986/996 backlash from 1998.
Personally, I don't think the rest of the front bumper lines work either.........nothing flows or is coordinated. The big center opening is blocked off and goes no where (I'll assume it's for a future 3rd radiator....smalll consolation to buyers today).

Back on the lights..........they worked (very well) with the 993 body.....but I think what we are looking at here,
is Marketing forcing the hand of Design (at least I hope that's the case )

Yes, exactly! The evolution is completely out of sequence.

I don't object to the headlights as much as I dislike those parking/fog light assemblies. That is what my eye sees first and they look completely out of place...almost like some of the photoshop looks earlier this year. If those were buried in the grill somewhere the car would look a lot cleaner. Personally, I like the 996 headlike look with the covers on them that make it look like there are 2 lights there. If the factory produced them that way, without the "add on" look, I think it would be the best of both worlds. JMHO

These are the headlights (or similar) I was hoping to see on the next 911.

it'll take some time before i get use to the new front end/head lights. only complaint i have about the 997 is the performance. i am kinda disapointed w/ the hp rating. i was hoping for @ least 380 plus horses for the S model. for $90k plus, i want it to be able to kick a ZO6's butt all over the race track.

997 is like the new BMW 5 series, it's taking

a step backwards. I will not buy the new 5 or the new 997. I think the designers have changed. Bring back the old designers.

996 is the only one i be considering to change to, a later year maybe.

can not belive the designs coming out of Germany....

Italian cars on the other side, just keep gettting nicer and nicer.

You will probably have a very tough time keeping pace with the new C6 let alone the new ZO6 that will show up next year. Its still a Vette but they are very quick and stick like glue.
