why hasn't my car sold
Anyone selling anything is going through the same as you right now. People want to pay next to nothing regardless if it's a Porsche or a Honda or a bathroom fixture. It's like vultures circling. I'm not saying it's good or bad, it's just reality right now. That will change though, hopefully this year sometime.
The market it just tough right now - believe me, I bought my car 7 months ago, and paid WAY over what people are asking today.
In terms of the color - as an Orient Red owner like you, every time someone sees it in person, they absolutely love it! So I'd try to attend as many local meets / races / club events as possible to show it off. I think once people see the color in person it begins to appeal to a broader audience, and people who thought they'd NEVER buy a red P-car (me), get swayed.
I've shown dozens of people pics of the car, and they were +/- about it. Those same people would literally stare at the car once they saw it live. Just my .02. GLWS.

Based on a buyers market,Considering price, miles are to high, that front bumper will cost 1k plus to fix so condition is not perfect and it will take a special buyer who picks the color. Not saying good or bad just narrows the people who might want it.
If your car is not a smoking deal it wont sell these days, who has cash and can justify it these days?

I agree with you guys, I need to get people to see the car in person. The depth of the color is just amazing.
As to holding on to it, the sad reality is that the value of cars will not ever go up, they will just stop dropping as fast. Only value in this would be maybe less of a 'steal' for the buyer would get it sold.
As to trading it dealers are only going to give me $22-$23K for it.
BTW car is still for sale :/

Just to give you an idea I just traded my Seal Grey/Black 6sp 02 C2 with 44k miles and it had more options than your C2 (carbon fiber, sport seats, painted center console, flared sides) but it had a bad carfax (1 accident)
I only got $25.5k

As you've stated in your first post, the color of the car isn't the generic black/silver, and the mileage is extremely high. The car doesn't have any interesting modifications to justify your selling price. A stereo upgrade is not a high priority modification on a Porsche.
Good luck though.
Why will my car not sell? Its in exceptional condition, esp given its miles.

(Auction gives all the options and some decent pics)
My friends and I guess that its the mileage that is scaring people away. But I would have thought that the price is a decent account of that.
Also my location in Wilmington NC (far south east corner of NC) may deter some buyers from coming to look at it. Cause I know that a lot people claim great condition and when you see it you find out that its not really that is. I have been trying to sell this for a few months now and have not had an actual prospective buyer come see that car.
One guy from wintson-salem sent his brother in law, who was a fellow wilmington porsche enthusiast, to give the car a look over. He was crazy about the car and its condition and how the few mods really brought the car up a level. But alas, the winston-salem guy found a car that was a little closer to his locale.
Hell, when I bought this car I researched 100's finding the right one with the right options in a nice and not everyday color. And also had a decent price. I had to go down to south florida to get it.
I'm not sure what else to do besides just keeping holding out.
Any helpful comments would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
AJ

I'm in the beginning phases of looking for a 996. The issue with your sale? Milage and price. I took a '00 for a test drive that had 43K miles and was listed for $24K at the dealership. Yeah, yours is newer, but that car has a lot less milage, had a Porsche inspection done, and was in fantastic shape. If you take a look at AutoTrader, eBay, and many other sites you'll find many good deals.
The other issue is I think most people in general value their vehicle more than it can actually sell for. I know in the past I did. My current car that I need to sell in the Spring, I valued much higher than the reality I could get. (It's a Honda S2000 which I absolutely love, am not happy about selling but can't make fit our lives no matter how much I tried over the past year with a baby in the house & 2 seater car.)
I think you need to evaluate how badly you want to sell the car, how much you'd really take for it, and where the best places to market it are. Kinda like myself with the S2000, there are many on the common places priced really low. Find some other places where there's less competition. But still, you'll really have to give hard thought to the price.
Oh, the bumper stuff. I would probably address this somehow in the ad, while phrasing it as normal chips on the front bumper as one would expect with any car with this milage.

Not too many people buying Porsches right now. I had a couple of friends looking. One got laid off and other is affraid it is coming any day.
I have a feeling this is happening to a lot of potential used Porsche buyers right now.
