why hasn't my car sold
I'm in the beginning phases of looking for a 996. The issue with your sale? Milage and price. I took a '00 for a test drive that had 43K miles and was listed for $24K at the dealership. Yeah, yours is newer, but that car has a lot less milage, had a Porsche inspection done, and was in fantastic shape. If you take a look at AutoTrader, eBay, and many other sites you'll find many good deals.
The other issue is I think most people in general value their vehicle more than it can actually sell for. I know in the past I did. My current car that I need to sell in the Spring, I valued much higher than the reality I could get. (It's a Honda S2000 which I absolutely love, am not happy about selling but can't make fit our lives no matter how much I tried over the past year with a baby in the house & 2 seater car.)
I think you need to evaluate how badly you want to sell the car, how much you'd really take for it, and where the best places to market it are. Kinda like myself with the S2000, there are many on the common places priced really low. Find some other places where there's less competition. But still, you'll really have to give hard thought to the price.
Oh, the bumper stuff. I would probably address this somehow in the ad, while phrasing it as normal chips on the front bumper as one would expect with any car with this milage.

But another question I have, not so much related to price but taste. You guys that have (or like) black, silver, white cars, what are your ages? Im curious to know if color preference is age related.
Thanks for the feedback guys, this is definitely some good food for thought!
I'm not saying it's not worth it to someone, just not to me. Miles on a car certainly plays a role in people's decision making process. The difference in motor size, I honestly don't think many people can feel the difference by the seat of their pants.
Hey, you did ask.
In the end, all you need to find is one person with the financial means who also feels the price is right.
Regarding color - I've owned a couple of black vehicles and while they look nice, what a PITA to keep clean. Of course I'm sue I'll find a killer deal on a black 996.
For what it's worth, I do like the color of your 996.

37yrs old and Carrera's only come in White
Did you pu your other ride yet? I just can't believe no one will buy your car. I'd trade it in on another car even if you just bought a new just to slow down the downward spiral. A local Harley dealer here in Chicago took a 996 trade on a new PowerGlide. Trying to give you options
Well my boss is giving me a pretty good deal on an extremely loaded 05 Quattroporte with 2600 miles for $42K, some warranty left(no type-o) So the pressure is on to sell this.
Right now Im willing to take $26,000 exhaust and bypass pipes included.

It's a beautiful car. I love the color! The mileage is higher than what I'm looking for, but I think Ive also decided to go for a vert. I have about a month until I can really make any moves, so we'll see if anything changes. Either way GL. It really is a nice color!
I'm 22 and preferred black over red.
51 and 02, Seal Gray C2 6sp. A LOT is your location. Just not many buyers in that area, willing to make the trek for a maybe. I raninto the same thing when trying to buy mine in Richmond. The crappy part about it is that it screws you either way. If the market is good for the cars the prices are much higher than say, DC, Philly, Baltimore, and when it tanks, they go much lower. FWIW, I'd only go an 02 or newer, period, as well, but even a year ago when I bought mine, with 37k miles on it, I only paid $32k in DC. Same car with higher miles, black, MUCH worse shape was $39k, maybe $38k in Richmond. Mine needed all the wheels rerounded & powdercoated ($800), and the front bumper replaced and repainted, ($1200), which is how I got him from $35k to $32k, but it also had just had the 30k service, new front pads & rotors, new tires, new expansion tank, has supple leather and lumbar, and a few other options I wanted. So even if, rule of thumb, every 10k miles is worth $1500, then mine would've been $28k with new looking wheels and front end. Add to that it's now one year older and the dismal market and you're down to $26k, at BEST, with a more popular color. It's jsut the way it is today. But crap, compared to what I've lost in the market, the 996 has been a better investment!!
I think the problems are deeper than the color of your car. If you read the print news the global economy is in the tank, unemployment numbers are larger each week and those with the means to buy are waiting. It will sell, just not as fast as it would have a year earlier. People are still buying auto's and big ticket items, they are now just a bit more cautious. Give it time.
