I'm in the market for a new radar detector and it seems like it comes down to the Escort 9500ix or the Valentine one V1. Would any of you like to share your opinions, experiences and or comments? It would be greatly appreciated!

Bob: there are a million posts on this. I've had Escort for a couple of years and it's saved me many $$$$ but I'm sure NOT impressed with their customer service. Go to http://www.guysoflidar.com/ and then the March 2007 detecter link for some definitive answers. While it's a little dated it gives you objective data rather than the stuff we like to throw back and forth.

How do you get busted? Are they illegal in your state or does the law seek you out because they can detect you have one?

Bob: answer is easy; you get complacent - start blowing along at 25mph over then get hit with an instant on (or laser).

If you want to learn about radar and laser, go to www.radardetector.net. The information will be better there than here. You will hear from people on this board say V1 is best with any one of a few others battling for 2nd place. In reality it isn't that simple. The best radar detector is determined by your individual circumstances. Go to that site and learn.

i have been using a hardwired V1 for 3 years now, in my Porsche and S4. I've lost count how many times it has saved me from tickets...

I never leave home with out it.

I've got an Escort 8500. Combination of being aware and the detector has saved me many times.

On the highways where I live they use instant-on a lot, so that's just tough to pick up no matter what. Although the local sheriffs just drive around all day with their radar on - the detector saves me from stupid mistakes like 42 in a 30.

Love my V1. It's so easy to drive over the speed limit in these cars. Just nice to have it there as a back up in case you get distracted.

Hardwire V1. The arrows are great, others just beep and you don't know where to look. You can mail it in for software update. I even take mine in rentals when I go out of town.
