Smile Bose system + aftermarket head unit

Hi everybody,

I plan to install a Avic F900BT in my 996 C2 my04 which has Bose system.

After many researches, I found out that the owners who have already done this, did it in many different ways. Many of them purchased a new amp, some wired all the speakers to this amp, others wired to it the sub only...

So my main question is ; "Do I REALLY need a new amp ? Or, is it possible to wire all the speakers + SUBWOOFER directly to the new head unit ?

Thanks for your help

Honestly i would never run an aftermarket head unit straight to the speakers.. its better to run though an eq and amp.. sounds much better.. just my opinion though

Of course, you 're right...

But what I want to know, is if it is compulsory or not to wire the speakers and sub to a new amp (because of impedance and this kind of things..)

This has been covered before. But, the 03+ cars use a proprietary fiberoptic input system called MOST. An aftermarket headunit has no way of sending the proper signal to the Bose amp. As such, your stuck changing the amp. I'm not sure if you can utilize the existing speakers, I know that Bose speakers tend to use super low impedenances (like 1 or 2 ohms) so many aftermarket amps may not be able to handle such low loads. The cleanest way is to just swap everything out.

I guess I misunderstood...you might be able to wire the headunit directly to the deck but, again, the impedance issue arises. I'd be scared of wiring my $1000+ headunit to those cheapo bose speakers.

I just installed the AVIC 700 and a 5 channel alpine amp connected with rca cables. The speakers and sub I connected to the amp and works just fine although I did have to extend the speaker wires by 16" to reach the amp. I mounted it where the old cd changer was located

What kind of material did you use to extend the wires ? On my actual amp, I can see 3 different sizes on wires (I mean different thickness).....

PS : I thought you had a F90BT instead of F700.....

i have a F700 but the only difference is a DVD player. I used heavy speaker wire and the power for the amp is 1/4" in diameter wire.

I also recommend running an eq and amp as it sounds better
