Battery Recommendations

Hi Guys,

It has been awhile. I went to pull my 996 Cab out of winter storage on the weekend. The battery was dead as a door nail. I was able to access the trunk by jumping the fuse box as outlined in previous posts. Thanks! Now that I have been able to access the trunk does anyone have a strong recommendation for one brand of battery over another as my replacement?

Thanks Oran

i would never buy another optima battery. mine died shortly after the warranty expired. i didn't notice any advantage to justify paying the premium for it.

i just changed out my battery last month. i just went to autozone and picked one up. I've always had good experience with their battery.

I have an Optima but it takes special mounting to secure it to the tray. Other folks have reported that Interstate makes a direct replacement - correct size. Can't remember the part # but a search should turn something up.

I have an Oddysey with the Rennline mount. Also a drip charger to keep it fresh. Very cool.

i got a kirkland battery a couple weeks ago, and a craftsman battery maintainer.

The battery maintainer plugs into the cigerette lighter plug which is convenient.

most aftermarket battery from autoparts store are made by johnson control. so, just get the cheapest one. i got one from walmart for $60. direct fit without fiddling around w brackets.

its actually good to have a heavy battery in front to balance the car. if you put a 20 lb bag of road salt, you'll see an improvement in corning. LOL... Maybe the cheapest mod

You can go to Pep Boys or Autozone. The ususally have the exact fit replacement battery for a little over $100. Bring your old battery along to make sure it is an exact match, the terminals are correctly situated (+,-) and it has the breather hose

I plan on going with the Kirkland battery for my truck this weekend, and for the P-car when the time comes - Consumer Reports rated it a Best Buy...

I have a Interstate bat in my 02 Cab, it hasn't let me down yet. I leave mine in the garage over the winter as well.
