My DIY CF Wrap
Hey Raph,
Believe me, you're on the list when I get to it... Did you not drive the car for the month you had the console out (I read your DIY over on Rennlist)? I should be getting my car back from the body shop (putting on turbo-look front and rear bumpers and side rockers... it's been out for going on 8 weeks now...) and I'm not real excited about the prospect of keeping it parked while I paint the console... Hopefully you can still drive it, but let me know...
Thanks,
Rudy

!Nope, the console, as well as all the trim pieces/cubbies/etc. are basically there for asthetic purposes only, so when you remove them, you can still drive the car. Of course everyone that gets in asks you "WTF happened?" But other than that there's no problem, lol. What I did was after I took everything out, I simply left the ashtray inside just so I could plug in the window switches & have a spot to put my phone (living in San Diego & not being able to roll your windows down is basically hell)... So what products do you plan on using?
PS, Brando, sorry for hijacking your thread. I'll post my own today, lol.

Your console looks killer! Nice paint job!
that looks great! I had that idea awhile back...just using a high quality vinyl and cover the pieces. But yeah..I was lucky to have the small CF interior just like you and my interior is color matched to body color so no need to do anymore.
Man...looks great in your car tho.

Glad to hear that part! I've been without mine almost two months now (getting bumper covers and side rockers) and it's killing me... even my once a week visits are getting tough - fortunately it should be ready by the time I get home at the end of the week (fingers crossed...)
I think you recommended automotivetouchup.com for the paint - I have that site bookmarked and this carbon fiber stuff... the guy doing my body work is also going to give me a quote on painting the console too... so we'll see it writing a check is easier... I don't know if I have the patience and commitment you do and I'd hate to screw it up...
Thanks!
Rudy

actually if you look at the pic... its like very thin vinyl (of some sort) meshed in CF pattern, layered on top of thin cloth.... if you can clear coat this, the CF industry will go broke! LOL!!!

I glued a piece down.....and then hit it with a couple of coats of spray clear enamel.
It didn't destroy it.......but it kinda cuts down on the light refraction and weave look. Pic is using the flash.
But for me, I like the look and feel of the fabric, so no CC on mine. I like it because it is not like hard plastic.

UPS just dropped of my two yards of CF wrap... First perception - it's a matte finish - doesn't look near as shiny as some of Brando's pictures - maybe when I get it on a firmer surface? Also, has anyone played with a finish on this yet? In its' present form, tough to say it could substitute for real CF pieces, but with a resin-like gloss, I think it would pass...
Thoughts???

Okay, Okay... I don't know when I can get to it... the latest rumor is that I'll get my car back this Friday (but that's been the rumor for a month of Fridays). I've been toying (in my head) taking some blanks (not sure of what) and wrapping those and experimenting with the coatings - I'll share my results and pictures when I get them... but I do have to post the disclaimer that I've never worked with resin or fiberglass before, so there will probably be some learning curve. I was hoping a fiberglass ace would step up and get to it before I do (I hope, I hope...) Anyone, anyone???
