URGENT HELP!!

OK. I haven't driven my 996 for a month (long story). I left my GPS cradle/AC charger on the cigarette lighter, so I'm guessing that thing drained my battery.

The problem is today I went to the car, the remote doesn't open the door. so I used the key. I had to open the passenger door from the inside to let my girlfriend in. Then I turned the ignition.. no sound what so ever... No crank, the battery is completely dead.

So I know i have a jump starter kit in the trunk.. tried pulling the trunk release.. It was locked. The rear engine access cannot be opened either.. I guessing both problems is due to the fact that I used the central locking system when I locked the door a month ago.

So... I'm in deep trouble. I park my car on the 7th floor of a very tight multistory garage.. I can't start my car.. I can't access my trunk or open the rear engine access.. So I cannot jump start my car either.

1) Is there anyway i can open the trunk/rear engine door so I can start my car if the battery is dead? i have a 1999 996.

2) Since a flatbed truck cannot come up and tow my car... and the jumpstart kit can only work if i can open the trunk or rear engine door.. I'm thinking the only solution right now I can think of is to push the car down 7 stories.. and then finding a power outlet and buying a device that can start my car by charging the battery though the cigarette lighter..

Any help... please message me immediately. Right now, the passenger door cannot even be locked because it cannot be locked manually from the outside!

I think that you can jump start your car from the driver side, check your manual

Why not push start the car? I have never tried it (particularly wary of alarms cutting fuel supply) ... but there is no reason it wouldn't start when going down the 7 stories. Yeah, that might require a bit of effort to reach the ramp ... but ... just another idea.

its not a spiral ramp...
you go down one floor.. than it becomes flat.. then you go down another floor.. than its flat again..

and besides.. there is no sound at all when i am turning the key.. not even a slight hint of cranking sound.

You need to get some jumper cables and hook them up to a good battery.

Open the driver door (or passenger).

Take off the fuse panel cover. You will see one pull out connector, it's red as I recall.

Connect the positive (red) battery cable to that connector.

Connect the negative (black) battery cable to the metal "U" shaped thing that the door closes onto. It's the thing that the door latch grabs that is attached to the chassis on the car (not the door).

With that, you should be able to open your hood. Then use the cables to jump start the car.

Good luck.

Roy

ps. This is in the owners manual somewhere... I don't remember where...

The red jumper in the fuse box started in 2001 when the electric releases came out. He has a 1999.

You alarm was on when the battery died so the levers are locked.

There is a way to put power in the fuse location for the alarm to unlock the levers but it is too complicated for most people.

Easiest way is to somehow get power and charge the battery through the lighter socket.

I know that I can do it in the fuse, but I have an 03. I think you need to call a local dealer. Won't a charger in the lighter give you enough juice to open the trunk?

hey thanks a lot guys..

i tried out the screwdriver technique.. but didn't work.. then went to brookstone to buy one of their cigarette lighter chargers.. plugged it in for 20 minutes and it was enough power to open the trunk/rear.

Still bugs me how everything is controlled by electricity nowadays. all my older cars work fine with a simple key.

but again thanks to all those that responded!!

Yes, there's a pull cable under the front passenger side headlight for the front hood and one more under the driver's side rear taillight for the rear hood.
