Unhappy Lesson Learned - Regular Inspection

I have a track event coming up next week, so this weekend, I performed a little pre inspection........and found this!

JIC coilovers are missing one of the bolts that hold the bracket that the front swaybar link mounts to!!

WTF? It just backed out? It was there a couple of months ago when I installed them. It would have sucked to have it come off in the middle of a high speed sweeper.

Lesson - regularly inspect your car, especially before a track day!

Glad you caught it before it became a bigger issue.

What do you think the cause was? Not properly torqued or no lock tite? Either way, keep an eye on it and 2x check the rest of them to make sure they are not backing out either.

If you installed them yourself, then did you torque correctly or use loctite? If installed by others, then shame on them..that's why you paid them in the first place, right? Tough bolt to replace? Like you said, could of been a bad turn story instead!! Good catch.

That bracket comes attached on the shock with the new endlink from JIC.

It is very strange that it just backed out.

Oh well.....at least I caught it.

Himself would suggest you do a new suspension, sways, tires and wheels to fix the problem

Cool

Replaced the missing bolt today.

I removed all the others and used Loctite on all of them.

Word of advise: If you have JIC Cross CO's.....check these bolts.

Always check bolts on coilovers, just because they come "assembled" does not mean they are properly tightened. I've seen many instances where the top bolt came off... nothing happened because the weight of the car is still holding it together, but unload it and its trouble.

Brando,

To install mine I found it easiest to remove that bracket. Mine did have locktite and I torqued to them to what seemed to be appropriate - 30 ft/lb since no figures were provided.
