no need to upgrade brk on 996c2. just put pagid's on and you have way more brakes than you will ever need.

i agree with mooty, stock brakes are good enough with the power on a NA 996. the only time i have experienced brake mush is doing the malibu canyons back and forth under very harsh driving. as malibu has a very steep grade. even during track events the brakes are fine. just get sticky tires.

The stock breaks are plenty, as Eric and Mooty said. The only thing you might need if you track your car is an extra set of pads.

some prefer pagid yellow RS-19's. i use pagid orange RS4-4 for track and street. they don't squeak on my 996 at all. but they are a bit harsh on the rotors. there are other colors that are more suited for pure street driving, however, i am not familiar with them. check out pagid's web site. they have description of all the different pad compounds and respective uses.

why? they're just pads- they all look the same other than the compound and color of backing plate, unless you're talking about aftermarket kits aforementioned.

Hi Raja,
I went back and forth with the brakes on my car. I wasn't happy with the performance of my stock brakes. Here is what I decided to do, hope it helps

Grand-Am race cars use the stock brakes with track pads. You can try Hawk pads that are intermediates which are not as loud and sqeaky as track pads but provide a huge improvement over stock pads. In the end, it comes down to how much you want to spend. I put the GT3 brakes on mine and although theyre great, theyre completely unnecessary...even for 465 HP

The main problem I experienced was with the ease of wear for stock pads, boiling fluid and the temp range constraints for street purposes. I like the S pagids I run along with motul 5.1. However I am still need gt3 cooling ducts or substitutes however, the wear is reasonble. I am also going to swap that motul for castrol srf as you don't have to change it as much because the wet boiling point is sooo much higher than the motul
Also as I was told the negligible gains from the gt3 brakes- turbo brakes with different carriers, are offset by the great increase in unsprung weight that is why the brembo's are soo much more attractive, I don't remeber which ones they were however when Barry was "schooling me"

The stock brakes are all you need. The only upgrade I would suggest for heavy track use is Pagid Orange pads and ATE SuperBlue brake fluid. Anything else is pure bling. IMO
One more thing, steel or braided brake lines are not a good idea on the street, in fact they're flat dangerous.
