New Tires
New Tires
I am looking to purchase a new set of tires for my 03 996 Cab.
I have 18" wheels and currently have the following tires:
Rear: Continental Sport Contact 2 (285/30ZR18)
Front: Perrl Russo P-Zero (225/40ZR18)
Any opinions on the General Tire "Exclaim UHP" they are rated very high for the price @ Tire Rack and I like the tread pattern.

I am just curious if anybody has any experience with these tires on their Porsche.
I put a set on my wife's BMW 5-Series and they seem to be just fine.
Should I be looking at Extreme, Max or Ultra-High Performance Summer tire category.

rudy1024,
Have you posted pictures of the Turbo-Look Front & Rear mods.
If not would you.
I am very interested in doing something like that.
I also like the side skirts in the avatar photo.

Recommend chatting with Damon at the Tirerack 1-888-541-1777 x643 and perusing the UTQG's on their site for the sizes you need. The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) Uniform Tire Quality Grade Standards (UTQG) were originated to provide consumers with useful information to help them purchase tires based on their relative treadwear, traction and temperature capabilities. Generally speaking a "200" would be softer and shorter-lived than a "400", but the "200" would probably be more fun for cornering, braking and acceleration. Always be sure that your front and rears are same brand/rubber compound. Depending on your driving style, your front tires will last approx 2x the life of the rears.
With more than 1,000 miles on the Sumi HTRZIII, these are awesome tires, loved them on my 996 so much that I put them on my 330i as well. Super quiet and responsive, are they the equal of a Pilot Sport at full tilt? no! are they superior to the crappy, loud as hell Pirelli's? absolutely yes. Unless you track your car why in th world would you spend three times as much for similar performance.
I would not base your decision on the UTQG ratings of a tire. Treadwear rating is an ambiguous factor assigned by the manufacturer, not tested and certified by DOT. You definitely need to have a matched set of tires on the car for proper performance. This is a high performance vehicle and should be equipped with top of the line tires. Don't skimp on the one part of the car that touches the ground. Stick to a top tier brand -- Michelin, Bridgestone, Pirelli, Conti. Toyo, Yokohama, Dunlop/Gdy could also be worth considering.
