Question about GPS systems
I have the magellan. Pretty nice, although, I hear the new ones with the touch screen are super. It depends on if you want stationary or mobile. Go to some stores and check them out. I guess the ultimate would be the pioneer or kenwood touch screen ones. Do a search here and see what you get.
Dev,
My wife is in real estate and when she had appointments, she used to print out reams of paper with directions.
That meant that "I" was the one responsible for cleaning her car.
Anyway, I purchased the Magellan 700 and she loves it. The 700 has minumum storage capacity, therefore, we only loaded the local maps (NY, NJ, PA) but the CD disk allows other states to be loaded when we travel.
She also has the capability of selecting points-of-interest when driving, ATM, Diners, Gas, Retail Stores, etc...
The only issue we ran into is new construction, we moved into a new construction home and the streets haven't been updated in their database. I am sure Magellan will address the new streets once they have a new CD release.

I have the Quest...Love it.
I've have had just about every Garmin, or access to the individual units, over the last couple years.
Garmin, with their personal method of making sure you don't pirate any of their stuff, makes it difficult for a beginner to set up and use most of the mapping GPSes. (2610 and that series excepted, that come loaded with all of NA or Europe)
I've also used Magellan units, and they can be worse, except that they don't share Garmins Pirate Paranoia.
If you have a laptop or desktop computer, can read instructions on how to install software, register your Garmin, load detailed maps to the unit and such...the Quest is a great GPS. I live in Europe and bought the European model (243mb of space instead of 115mb...but I don't know why!)
The Quest is great to have in the car, pull it our and go wandering around Pisa or Florence (last week) or Charleston (hometown). It has an internal battery that has a pretty long life and the antenna is KILLER. It picks up sats where none of my other Garmins would before (like sitting in the center of a Beechcraft 200 with little windows)
If you don't like suction cups stuck to your windshield, the Quest fits right in between the defroster vent and the windshield on my '04 996.
In Europe, Garmin's mapping software is WAY better than Magellan's. I'll assume it's the same for the 'States.
Get the Quest. You'll love it. (even better than the iQue...in my opinion)

Great info guys, I knew I could count on yall! The Magellan looks amazing, but, it's double the price of the Quest.
Basically the same situation here aben, I have a const. co in NJ and find myself burried in ripped maps and lots of paper notes when I go on appts. I'm thinking, this, like satellite radio is the only way to go.
grazie

garmin ique 3600. my wife and i both have them. great gps unit. it's also a pda and an mp3 player. i've had mine for over a year now. not to mention it has an sd card slot so you can hold up to a meg of maps on there. same functionality as the street pilot for less money and more features.

I have the Garmin 2620. It uses touch screen, entire US map (and Canada) loaded, incredible flexible. I like it better than the Navi in a 2004 Cayenne. I highly recommend it.

Deputy Dog,
I have the 3600 too...I liked it a lot until one day I was using it just with the car charger, not in the mount and the little (I mean LITTLE and TEENY) pin inside the charger hole(on the unit itself) broke off. I'm a tech, and I don't abuse my stuff and I'm still not sure how this happened. Now the iQue (Currently the iQue paperweight) has earned itself a trip back to Garmin.
Just be careful with the 3600 and don't uset with the car charger plug alone. Always mount it in the holder.
- Love your icon..."Whooooeeee Muskrat! Get outta the creek-mud!"

oops. mention to say the garmin will hold up to a gig in maps. not a meg. i am using a 512 card in mine and have the southeast us maps in there. still have at least two thirds of the card left for apps and mp3's. you can't beat it for the price. you can buy the whole setup for $600 which includes the unit, 512 card, screen protector, and vehicle cradle/speaker. I think they even throw in a few extra stylus. I have no problems seeing my screen in bright sunlight. I have used the street pilot and it is the exact same thing for half the money with more flexibility.
gpsnow.com has the best package pricing on this unit.
you can also get an external antenna for it as well at gpsgeek.com it's around $20. make satellite aquisition very quick and maintains maximum satellite lock.
