996s are not exotic cars by any stretch. Especially considering you can buy a decent mk1 for under 20k. Barely even rare. And there are lots of cars suited equally well for canyon carving.

I think it is probably correct in many cases to say Porsche owners are elitist.

My DD is a Taurus. I needed a disposable car that would do 500+ miles per week for years and not give me a headache in the process. So far so good.

Interesting: If I try to spell "Dan tucci" as poorly as he spelled Taurus, it comes out "****** bag".

Most of my closest friends are enthusiasts of other makes of cars, like VW, Audi, Honda, Nissan, etc. Most of them refuse to come to Porsche driving events or shows with me because they have this perception that Porsche owners are stuck up, no matter how much I try to convince them that it's not true at all!

The original post reminds me of where they might have gotten that impression.

I hope that anyone who owns a Porsche does so for its performance, timeless design etc and not for the "aura" that comes with owning a Porsche. Trust me there is always someone in the road who drives a more expensive car than yours...maybe you havent seen him yet.
