Performance Chip, any experience with them?

new to forums and new 911 carrera owner. searched forums for performance chip ideas and didnt really come up with anything.
anyone have recomendations on performance chips, or any experience with them. looking for a simple application. found a stage 3 chip for $300 on a website that claims 30% more HP. is it true?
Greatly appreciate it.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but so far I've only seen chips that add maybe 20-30 hp on a base 911. Claims of 25-30% are usually reserved for Turbos (not sure of the 911 Turbo, basing my experience on other turbos).

I'd take that claim with a (huge) grain of salt, especially at that price. Do you have a link to the website in question? If so, post it here for us to see.

IMHO, rather than focusing on pure performance gains, you should look at enhancing other parts of the driving experience. Short shifter, suspension etc. or Drivers Ed (with your car) will do more for you than the 20-odd hp addition that a chip will do for you!

Always be wary of the "cheap fix", especially in Porsche. You will find that nothing is cheap when dealing with Porsches. In this car you get what you pay for. One very reputable chip maker, GIAC, has chips for all Porsches and they know what they are doing. However they are not cheap, $1500-2500 per, with expert support. You send in your ECU and they chip it and send it back, and you just install it back in the car. With the "chip" you mention, you do not really know how much installation and tuning it may take before it gets right. In my opinion, leave it to the pros when dealing with the ECU.

i would do more research and maybe talk to one the many sponsors on here that offer tuning/re-flashes and see what they have to offer, unfortunately there is no magical chip that you can install that will give anywhere near those types of claimed gains...unless its a turbo in which case 15-20% is more likely

i would steer clear of anyone making those types of claims or offering a tune/chip/flash for $300, any reputable tuner with any sense knows its worth at least $1k

personally i would only ever consider going with a company who is active on this board and who members on here have used and consistently reccomend

any idiot can put an ad online claiming 10% for $500, its probably a friend of the prince in nigeria trying to get his money out of the country

50+ hp for $69.99 Here is one of the testimonials from their website. This is really sad.

"Holy smokes, my expedition takes me places faster with a lot more fuel efficiency! I’m a mother of three and I have many places to go with not too much time in between. Adding the SLR chip was incredibly easy and the power I’ve gained and the money I’ve saved on fuel really has me raving about this product! Thank you SLR Motorsports, you made my life a lot easier!"

I have done ECU tuning with a few of my sports cars. Unless you have many supporting mods you will not get a huge gain in hp. Also I have never seen a reputable ECU upgrade for that price. Without knowing anything else about this chip I would say really big NO to buying that one!
