996 c4

1. maintenance is not too bad. Oil changes cost $225 and you do them every 4-6k miles. Some people recommend 8k miles.

2. very reliable reliable. Easily usable as a daily driver

3. No outstanding recalls that I have heard about.

i drive mine to work alot. great ride for everyday use. maintenance can get expensive. everytime i had minor work done cost me a minimum of 500..lol..recently changed coolant resevoir, has been known to leak. cost to replace 550. but no major issues. and the repairs were minor.

With this site you will save your self a lot of money if you know how to turn a wrench. Taking the car somewhere to get work done with dig in the wallet ,but i have been brave and fixed most of the things that have gone wrong on my car myself. I do not drive it in the winter being i live in New Jersey. Tires tend to go really fast in the rear. I have two sets of rims so i don't have to change that often. Anything you could ever want to know is on this site just use the search. And never be afraid to ask questions, thats what this site is for.

I've got an '02, so not sure about recalls with the MkI.

I daily drive mine, and it's been solid with good reliability. Two issues I've had have been an ignition switch that went bad (known issue, replaced under warranty), and the water pump (also replaced under warranty). Current issues include a window regulator that needs to be replaced and the oil pressure sensor that needs either replacement or its contacts cleaned. The car has 90k miles, so some issues are not unexpected.

Maintenance costs can significantly be defrayed if you are handy with the tools. I'm not, but I still have done some minor maintenance to our cars, including brake pads/discs, oil/filter changes, and air filter changes. If you look at sites like renntech, rennlist, and 6speed, you'll find plenty of information on many of the common problems. Plus, Porsche parts vendors like Suncoast or Sunset Porsche offer parts at 15-20% above dealer cost, so buy your parts online or have your local dealer match prices (mine will), to save on parts costs. I've used the money I've saved on labor costs to purchase more tools to do these maintenance jobs (at least it's justified that way to the wifey...).

Good luck!

My Porsche is 11 years old but only has 48,000 miles on it. It is a '99 C2 Coupe, six speed. I LOVE this car! It drives beautifully, has plenty of power and handles like a dream on Hwy. One in California. I added EVO air induction system and sport tuned exhaust and quad black chrom tailpipes. Sounds awesome now! Next are sport headers and catbacks, then a new performance Unichip! Maintenance is minimal but had to shop for the right tires for windy roads. Dumped Michelin factory tires for Pirellis from Tire Rack and have had MUCH better mileage wear and no tire noise with the current setup. J. D. Powers puts the Porsche at the top of the list for best brand with least amount of problems.

I appreciate all you guys comments and input. And yes I can wrench myself from my past experience with my cars. I always say to myself if I can do it then I'll do it. Unless it requires major machinery such as alignment, car lift and such. I like the fact that it is reliable. And I'll keep in mind that online info are at 6speed renntech, rennlist...So you guys help me out when I come across a problem. Thank guys!

Good luck!

get a vehicle with clean maintenance records

You should be on the lower side of costs.

Tires every 10k on average

oils change every 5k
