Overflowing Gas Tank

So i was pumping gas earlier today...probably the 5th time ive pumped gas into my 'new' 2000 c2. I set the pump up and started to wash my windows...but then I heard a dripping sound, and my gas tank was overflowing. (Auto shut off thingy from the pump didnt activate). The gas station clerk said they didnt have any previous complaints about it. So i'm just wondering if anyone had this problem with a 996, and if overflowing the tank is for some strange reason bad for the ride. I drove home 10 miles with no problems...

A lot of people turn the pump handle upside down when pumping. People have been known to have a hard time having the pump fill the entire gas tank, would stop filling half way as if it were full. The only solution the forum people have found was to put the pump handle upside down. Not sure if this will help you but give it a shot.
