Front blinker dead. New headlight assembly?
Front blinker dead. New headlight assembly?
Hey guys...
I have a new problem. Can anyone confirm this? My left front turn signal is out. The dash indicator blinks rapidly. I asked my mechanic to change the bulb yesterday while I had the oil changed. He changed the bulb and it still didn’t work. He removed the headlight assembly and tested the connections. He found that the problem is inside the headlight unit, which, he says, cannot be opened. Do I actually have to replace the entire headlight assembly to get a $2.00 bulb to blink?

Before you buy a whole assembly I woild try to open it. It's a fairly common practice among the honda community to bake the headlight in the oven for about 10 min. This softens the glue and will allow you to pull it apart.
I wouldn't take the chance on the oven bake.... I used to re-work FD3s tail lights and the best thing to do is use a heat-gun so you can control the temps.... "IF" you're going to chance it. I would first try to swap a couple of new bulbs or plug it into someone elses harness. It might be a harness which is cheaper to replace than a headlight.

I would also check the rest of all the bulbs. In my muscle car days. if 2 or more bulbs goes, it throws out the empedance of the whole circuit and can cause uneven blinking. Also check out if there is any grounding issues (wire touching metal, loose wire, bad connection), not only at the problem area but the rest of the electrical harness.
Thanks guys. The harness was tested, as well as the bulbs. We narrowed it down to inside the headlight case. I imagine there is a circuit board or something in there that has a loose connection? We ruled out everything outside the case.

John, had the same thing happen to me and it turned out that one of the pin on the headlight assy was bent and not lined up with the socket. Took me awhile to figure that out. Check the connector in the HL Assy.

I had everything tested. The pins are straight. Everything that could be done outside the assembly was done. The problem lies somewhere inside the enclosure. It has to be opened. Has anyone ever split one of these things open?
