Finally! Pics of my new 996, and upgrades done
Finally got some upgrades done to my "new" 996 I picked up a couple months ago. It came with the wheels, suspension, clear lights, 3 spoke steering wheel, oval exhaust tips, GPS/DVD/CD deck, Focal speakers, etc.
Things I've done to my baby since I bought it...
- K&N from Vivid a few weeks ago
- Dfister exhaust (actually drove out to his place to have him do it - great guy!)
- Painted my brake calipers, top hats, and lugs (last Friday) (took a full day, but I'm EXTREMELY happy with the results - used the DupliColor kit - make sure you use 4-5 coats, and be patient, the first couple coats look awful, but the more coats you use, the better it shines. When you put that white Porsche decal on the caliper, it just pops! Also, make sure you sand down ALL THE PAINT from the top hat and lugs - I should have done a better job)
- 8 hour detail - wash/polish/wax from Aaron on Saturday (AC Detailing)
Things I still want to do near-term
- get the stereo worked on - amp was removed, so I need to get my amp in there, and a sub
- Short shift kit
First Porsche, and I've wanted one since I was a kid.
Thanks to this forum, I've found great deals, and great do-it-yourself write ups.
Hope you enjoy the pics...

that looks great - just like a new car! i have a black 2000 996 cab that desperately needs some TLC. I am planning on new wheels/tires, painting the calipers (prob yellow), new rear window, and then I need someone to sort out the paint - would you recommend AC detailing? Did you do mobile or take it to their shop? cheers, alan

Thanks Guys!
I got the decals on Ebay from Euromotorspeed - 2mm Oracal 751 Cast, rated 8 years. Whatever that all means.
I did shoot them with a couple coats of clear (same VHT clear I used for the tophats and lugs). It only took a day to do them, and if I had to do them again in a few years or so, no big deal, it was really quite easy. More time consuming with all the coats of paint than anything else.
Also got new cabinets in my garage so I could put everything in them and make room for the 996 in there now.
