My coolant temp has been high around 230 degrees so I dove in today

You're right - a 3rd radiator will only have a minimal impact if the car's not moving (or there isn't a fan to push air across it) - but that *didn't* seem to be the issue here. Seemed to heat up and stay hot regardless if the car is in motion.

fwiw the temp on my car is consistently between the '8' and the '0' as well.

I woke up really early and did the radiator fan mod complete with switch, works like a charm. I did the engine fan mod without a switch for now, it turns on with the key.

The forecast was 115 today and I wanted to combat it. Got a new radiator cap-check, cleaned radiators-check, switched from coolant/water to distilled water/Water Wetter-check and now the fan mod front and rear.

This morning at 8AM it was a balmy 100 degrees here, drove to work the climate control display trick showed 100C, thats 212F when I got to work. The temp gauge was in the middle of the zero in 180....SUCCESS.
Drove home in 115 heat a few minutes ago and the temp gauge was climbing higher and higher just past the 3/4 mark. The climate control trick shows 113C thats 235F, YIKES THATS A NEW RECORD.

I read some other guys post and he said he wished his car didn't have a temperature gauge so do I.

I have another 12 ounce bottle of Water Wetter and I'm going to add it tomorrow morning after I use a turkey baster to suck out some water from the expansion tank.

I feel like all of this work, time and energy has accomplished nothing. I'm renaming the 996 INFERNO.

109 on my dash and mine sticks at 180 degrees.. There is an issue with thermostat or something IMO.. when it was 101 on my dash last month i ran 1 full hour on the track non stop and it stayed 180..

Water wetter is not going to solve your problem.. Thats for a car that is already operating properly not a band aid for an underlying issue..

doublej is infamous around these parts
Does anyone know if there is a sequence to get the digital readout in the same manner for 997's? (GT3)?

mikes right waterwetter is just a bandaid. honestly in the hell of a summer we have here in az if your gauge is anywhere in the "0" in the 180 its normal. you look to be just outside the 0. so most likely there is not a huge failure, more of a cooling efficiency problem. checking the thermostat is not a bad idea but i have never seen one fail on a 996, also consider your radiators them selves may be slightly clogged and losing efficiency. i have also seen a water pump crack the plastic impeller and not be tight enough on the shaft to flow the coolant properly. a slight overheating issue like you have can be very hard to diagnose
