What is the reference to "narrow" or "wide" body 996 mean? I have a 2003 996 Targa and when I was looking for replacement wheels one site asked if my car was a narrow or a wide body 996. Is wide another way of saying it is a turbo or are there wide non-turbos?

The 'S' designation (C4S) designates a wide body, normally aspirated car.

 

2003 996 targas' are NB.

 

the C2 & C4...even the targa are consider as Narrow Body..

the C4S & Turbos are Wide Body....they're about an 1 inch wider on both sides of the rear fender than the C2 & C4..

I think I'm 99.9 percent sure on this...others can chime in if I'm wrong.

02-05 C4S Coupe/Cab, 01-04 Turbo Coupe/Cab, 05 Turbo S Coupe/Cab and 02-05 GT2 were Wide-Body

99-04 C2 Coupe/Cab, 99-04 C4 Coupe/Cab, 02-05 Targa Coupe & 99-05 GT3 were Narrow Body

993 & 997's are a diffrent Story...

997.1 and 997.2:-

C2, C2S & GT3 are Narrow Body

C4, C4S, Targa 4, Targa 4S, Turbo, Turbo S, GT3 RS, GT2, GT2 RS & Sport Classic are Wide Body

993:- Might be wrong about this...

C2 & Targa are Narrow Body

C2S, C4S, Turbo, Turbo S & GT2 are Widebody
