Took the car to auto cross today
OMG
I recently posted a thread wondering how to enter a turn in a porsche, because I was scared of oversteer.
Someone recommended going to an auto-x. I went today, and understeered pretty bad the first couple runs. For fear of oversteer, and trying to carry too much speed through turns.
Then I got all my breaking done before I entered the turn and let the throttle carry the car through the turn.
I don't know how to say this, but it felt like magic. Such precision, the car felt so eloquent, and felt like an extension of myself. It almost felt like a go cart.
I still don't know how to take an on ramp at a high rate of speed, maybe after a few track days.
The racing bug has bitten me!

It was with PCA sacramento chapter

I want to go to another one! SCCA puts them on often, but the run groups can be a little large I hear.
I'll send you a pm if I find another one close by!

tracjunkie: I've been to a PCA event up by your neck of the woods by santa rosa - great folks, and a whole lot of fun! I didn't have my 996 at the time though - went in a lotus elise, but the sound of those marvelous flat6s really got me looking at porsches that day. And here I am.
Can't wait to get back out to PCA AX, and I'm also a newbie to the rearengined 911 driving. When do you plan on heading out again next?

yikes! hope you were okay!
Not a scratch on me, airbags worked like a charm. I had a e46 M3 cab before the 996 and I was driving it like a e46 M3,big mistake that could have killed me. The Carrera handles like no other car on the road and it's important you learn how to handle its oversteer bc if you dont the car is not forgiving in the least bit.

glad your safe - just wanted to comment cause I like that you quote boiler room...
" The Notorious BIG said it best: "Either you're slingin' crack-rock, or you've got a wicked jump-shot." Nobody wants to work for it anymore. There's no honor in taking that after school job at Mickey Dee's, honor's in the dollar, kid. So I went the white boy way of slinging crack-rock: I became a stock broker."
classic flick for us sales folks...
