Question about K&N filter

So I installed the full k&n filter kit yesterday. When I started my car it seemed that the idle was dropping(RPM NOT HOLDING) almost stalling. I started the car this morning again and it seemed ok but not sure as the car was cold . Just a little worried about the idle dropping. Is this normal?

Yes - just the car re-adapting.

Keep an eye on it. If it keeps up after a week or so, you might have to clean an airflow sensor. Excessive oiling of the filter can get oil on the sensor and sometimes cause issues.

You need to wipe down the K&N filter before you put it in to get rid of the excess oil. Too much oil the the MAF will throw a CEL.

The ECU is re-learning your short term and long term fuel trims. It takes the car at least a few drive cycles (depending on your driving habits) to figure this out. That's most likely where you're getting hesitation and stumbles.

I run a dry filter

I put a dry filter with an Ingen hydroshield sock over it, no problems been on the car for quite some time now. I have had oiled filters before and find it a pain to re-oil and clean them. The other intake I had for a while was the EVo one and they have a dry filter now also.

Do not mean to beat a dead horse. But, I understand the over oiling issue with K&N Kits. This is a common error when one cleans and reoils the filter. For the sake of clarity, are we saying that the filter is over oiled straight out of the box?

I have the K&N and i found that even if you over oil, if you let the filter sit for awhile like a few hours, the excess oil drips off, and the rest soaks in....my guess would be that people oil it up and then drive off without letting it soak in.

Exactly. But, I am under the impression that folks on this forum are having issues with K&N Kits straight out of the box. I am fairly sure that issues brought on directly after K&N applications can be avoided with an ECU reset, and MAF sensor cleansing for good measure. I personally clean my MAF sensor every time I change my air filter; K&N or not; P-car or not. Even if one does not take these precautions, it would be a matter of the ECU adapting to a modified Air/Fuel ratio.

i have had my K&n kit in from day one, i always use a papertowel to remove the excess oil, and i always clean the MAF before, and about 2 days after i clean/oil the filter. original MAF 72K on the clock. Cleaning the MAF keeps it alive

typically i think they do. I stuff it and wrap it with newspaper and paper towels for a full day before i install to soak up excess - and of course clean the MAF while your in there. NO issues here running my K&N...
