Evolution of the Hunt
Evolution of the Hunt
So...sold my 997s Cab as I discovered in short order I could not utilize this car as my DD (3 kids, little league, etc). I bought a G37 as my DD, but set out a month ago on a qwest to get another 911 as 3rd car. Here was the evolution of my thinking in sequential order:
1. 993: This idea didn't last long as I began to read about these cars on the boards. The initial attraction was purely physical...until I heard about how she doesn't like hot weather, her interior was hideous, and overall performance wasn't up to par from what I've been used to. Couldn't even bring myself to drive one...not to mention...there really weren't any in DFW.
2. 996 (2002): Pricing was right, but what about the RMS/IMS? My hypothesis was that I would lose performance as the HP differences between 997 and 996 were pretty large. However, I decided to go drive one...surprise!!! 2 factors neutralized the power differences between 997 and 996. Weight and the fact that I drove a coupe (My 997 was cab)....very surprised the difference in the feel of coupe vs. cab...coupe so much more responsive! Actually felt VERY similar to my 997s cab.
3. 997: Started getting afraid of rumors, so I upped my budget and started looking for "cheaper" 997. In the end...just didn't feel like I would be happy in a non-s. Best deal I could find was an 05 in FL for $38K...simply couldn't see that car being 10K better than the 996 I drove!
4. 996 Turbo: Had to get it "out of my system." Drove one...simply did NOT like it. Well...perhaps not all that accurate. I liked it, but a few things bugged me: seats were too narrow for me on the back, didn't like the "lag," and car just felt too stable.
5. 996...as I searched, I found it interesting that only about 2 or 3 % of the cars I looked at had RMS/IMS fixed or updated. For my own piece of mind, I would have to find one that either had it, or that I got it under market at least $2k so that I could do it myself.
996 deal officially struck this week! I fly out next Monday to go pick her up...will properly introduce with pics next week.
