new front bumper design
Opinions Needed on new front bumper design
Hi All,
First post in this section... just recently picked up a '99 Cab and already the mod bug has hit
. I want to update the look of my porsche, especially the front end, and I am torn deciding between:
the OEM Aero front bumper,

or the aftermarket turbo look front bumper in polyurethane,

or the aftermarket 997 gt3 look front bumper in polyurethane,

I was leaning torwards getting the complete turbo look front and rear bumpers (with side skirts as well) but then came across this new design. What do you guys think of this new design and what are your opinions on which bumper I should go with? I know opinions can range and I should go with what looks the best to me, but I want everyone's opinions to give me a fresh perspective. The new design looks real good and is not made out of fiberglass so that is a plus for me. It is made out of ABS plastic though, so not sure on how durable that will be compared to polyurethane.
here is the new design I am talking about,

I'd skip on the Rieger from LLTek. I've used a Rieger bumper on my 02 Audi S4 and while it wasn't bad, I had issues with it's fitment and durability on my S4. Secondly, I have sworn never to deal with LLTek again due to their poor customer service.
I like the Turbo look, but I'm not sure if the aftermarket Turbo bumper would be a good fitment. I'd probably choose the OEM one unless you had heard really good feedback on the aftermarket Turbo one.

My 99 C2 was delivered with the OEM Aero Kit less the rear spoiler (front bumper, side skirts, and rear bumper skirt extensions). The Aero Kit is subtle. Yet, it is edgy enough to provide the P-car a racier appearance. Given a choice, I would remain OEM. Not given a choice, the 997 GT3 bumper is the most appealing. Note: If one is to add an aero kit to any vehicle, one should apply a complete kit...namely, front, side, and rear. In my case, it's a matter of aesthetics.
Thanks for the feedbacks so far guys; would love to hear more opinions since I am looking to pull the trigger soon... I don't know why its such a tough choice to make for me.
The OEM aerokit would be my first choice but prices have gone up so not sure if I want to spend that much: $1700 for the oem front bumper and $700 for the oem side skirts (I don't think I want to do the rear add on). For the same price I can get the complete turbo look kit (front bumper, side skirts and rear bumper). The turbo front bumper and side skirts would be coming from Precision Porsche so I assume the quality is good based on the many reviews I've read on this forum and others.

The aerokit is my preference and is what I have on my car. Only the bumper, have never done the side skirts, or rear shirts. As for a fixed wing, not my cup of tea. Also, you can find an aerokit front bumper for way less than $1,700. Look around and keep an eye on eBay, they are on there all the time. I think I paid abut $600 for mine a few years ago. Still needs to be repainted (the seller said it was mint but it was repainted and has some cracks in the paint that I have not taken care of). A new aerokit bumper comes primed and requires paint so don't be afraid to buy a used one in good shape.
Here's another a-hole(opinions are like a'holes...)
If you are planning on keeping everything OEM/stock or want to get max value later in reselling, I would get OEM bumper.
I would get aftermarket Turbo if you want to stay almost OEM or have OEM theme and aren't a purist.
997 gt3 is sort of poser but if done right with other mods, you might be able to pull it off.
Rieger = not the best fitment or quality(based on experience). And is it just me or is there a certain level of R8 to that bumper?
Either way please don't make it too nose heavy and get some appropriate sideskirts.
my $.02

That Reiger kit is awful looking. Square and angular accents on a very curvy car? looks like something that should have been bolted on to a high schooler's honda civic. The skirts dont flow with anything. The gaps look bad even on the mock-up picture. I could only imagine how bad the rear looks.
Top three look good. I vote 996 turbo

For front bumpers, I'm kinda partial to the NR Auto TA replica here:

Thanks for the feedback!
I am most likely going with the turbo look. I have not seen any used oem aerokit lately and I am too impatient to wait.
BTW: I now realize why I like that picture so much. It's the aftermarket hood. Anyone know what hood that is on that blue mk1 996 in this picture?

+1, Skip Reiger. It looks good until you start noticing the angles. Plus, feedback of poor fitment...
An modern alternative to the 997 look, since you are asking:

Turbo look was started by Speedart, for the 99 models. It looks great, if you ask me.
