High Oil Pressure

While driving on the highway at around 75mph in 6th gear I have occassionally noticed the oil pressure gauge maxing at 5+. I'm used to the gauge reading around 4.5. Should I be concerned?

im not sure of where exactly yours is reading at but for me, if I am accelerating or the engine is under load my oil pressure goes up, sometimes to almost 5 but when I have the clutch in or anything like that my pressure drops down to 2.5-3

this happening at around 3000 rpm. i should also note that I recently had the ims bearing replaced and switched to a screw on filter with an extra deep oil pan. the car has about 4000 miles on it since the mentioned uogrades.

Generally high oil pressure is good.

Does this occur when your car is at running temp?

Oil pressure could be higher with thicker viscosity oils
My car works like yours and I'm using Valvoline VR1 Racing 5W50
What viscosity are you using?

Porsche manual says that at 5.000 rpm it should be 4,5 bar

Don't worry

found solution

i think the cause might be due to low oil. i noticed this happening after i installed an extra deep oil pan with a spin on oil filter. if i add a quart of oil, the oil pressure goes back to normal.

I agree with this. My oil pressure was idling a little high and getting to the way high end of the gauge under load regardless engine speed. It was like this for a few weeks so I changed my oil. After doing this, my car was noticably quieter during startup and the pressure returned to normal. I attributed the cause of this to be from the small amount of oil that gets eaten by our notoriously hungry engines LOL. Maybe it also has to do with the type of oil? I do run 0w30 so maybe it being thin causes more to seep through?

Low pressure?

Have a 2002,996,tip,with 104K miles, run 5-40 syn, change every 5k miles, use metal oil filter with adapter,no oil consumption noticeable since I owned the car (last 34K miles).

Read that at 5K rpm my pressure should be 4.5, my gauge indicates 3.5, in either 3th or 4th gear.

Is being that it is off from 4.5 vs 3.5 a concern? Drop in pressure indication of engine problem?

TIA for the replies.

Max

Never mind, found other info, Owner's manual suggests that 3.5 bar is normal reading at 5000rpm when engine is at normal operating temp.
