Noisy Spoiler

The factory rear spoiler on my '02 Cab TT makes a heck of a noise when I put it up manually using the rocker switch. I don't know if it makes the same noise when it goes up automatically at speed, because at 70mph (or whatever), I can't really hear anything back there. The noise is a sort of groan/grind/squeak, indicating (perhaps) that a squirt of some lubricant here and there would solve the problem. Ideas, anyone? And if I were going to give it a few drops of WD-40 or some other light lube, any ideas where I should apply it? Thanks.

Normal to hear it deploy when at a stop, manually. If you fold it you'll hear it too.
Have fun!

I believe there is a little hole on one of the lift tube that you can squirt some lube in there. I would use silicone spray or a lube like LPS 1.

I had the same issue, i took it to the dealer and asked what to do and the service guy told me to put WD40 int the arm that puts it up. Its black, and on both sides, i squirt some in when it was all the way open. Try to get it on both sides, if you have a small can you can stick your arm in and get it from the middle too. Then i raised and lowered the spolier several times and it fine.

I would be cautious about WD-40, which seems to be solvent, paraffin & cologne. Might be ok for household door hinges. Silicone or a dry PTFE seem to be better choices.

WD40 will dry more than lubricate over time. I would try some of the other suggested products.

I took mine apart, and used Wd40 working the spoiler up and down many times. Be sure to lube all the points of contact, and it will eventually get better. Mine has quiet as can be now, knock on wood lol

I used spray on these black arms too and it quieted right down. Do these ever need fluid refills or checks?
