When I warm up my car for 2 mins and then drive, it's stiff to shift in gears (specifically 1st and 2nd gear) The temp being around 100. But when it reaches its operating temperature which is around 150-180, shifting is fine.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

This is normal. Don't warm up your car. Start and drive off this way all parts are lubricated together.

Is this really the appropriate method these days? I still warm up for at least 30 seconds even in warm weather.
