NY-LI Drivers -- Have You Noticed More Traffic Stops Lately?
Yikes. In the last month or so traffic enforcement in Nassau County, where I live, seems to have been stepped up DRAMATICALLY. In the last 3 days alone, I've seen Nassau County and Port Washington cops pulling people over left and right and my wife encountered a sticker-check roadblock just yesterday.
Then today, I saw a village cop in my own village standing in the middle of the road with handheld, instant-on radar, shooting at cars in both directions in a 30mph zone. He even shot it at me, but I was only going 25mph. My K-40 radar detector went off, but if I had been speeding, I don't think I would have been able to slow down much. Of course, he shot me when I was within 200-300 ft. so I had already slowed down because I was wondering what this idiot was doing in the middle of the road. Incidentally, his cop car was hidden a few hundred feet away on an intersecting side road. Just after he shot at me, he shot at a SUV coming toward me, and then motioned him to pull over.
What I found most interesting about this encounter was that the radar unit had no power cord attached to a power pack, and it wasn't plugged into his car. So, this means that with a unit like this, which obviously has good battery capacity, a cop can just stand at the side of the road, and fire away, and then radio ahead for another car to pull you over.
Gheesh. All this is almost enough to make you drive below the speed limit, for crying out loud!

In Bergen County they've been stepping up as well, its really weird I was driving on 80 yesterday following a Boxter S in my friends car then my 8500 kept picking up K band and Ka band every 3 minutes I had to slow down.

Is there a 'new' band that the 8500 does NOT pick up?
I was on the turnpike today and saw a trooper shooting from his window and I got nothing.

Sometimes they bluff and just hold up the gun, my friend ,a cop, does that all the time.

Same here. It was on rt17/southbound in Lodi. They actually had a DMV truck and cops were pointing cars to get smogged in a closed down gas station.
