Brake Caliper Paint- yellow or red
Opinions sought, thinking about painting the brake calipers on my 2000 cabrio Artic Silver, turbo look 18's. Brake Calipers are currently black and immaculate, but i have this uncontrollable urge to paint them red, but had also considered yellow with Porsche stickers of course.
Any suggestions on the various paint kits, is this really a good idea? I believe the calipers are powder coated on the 2000 and being a proud / **** Porche owner i do take the wheels off the clean them when i detail the car.
Great Forum, have read the postings many times, informative and amusing, thought i would actually become a member.

Artic Silver and the Red would be sweet, then red accent on the steering wheel, red seat belts, and it all ties together.

I have a guy who will powder coat and add the Porsche lettering complete for $400.00 "ALL 4"..... Let me know if you're interested. He's a bit "Old School" so he has no website etc. Send em' to me and I'll be more than happy to drop them off & pick them up.... In return he'll keep kicking me down with great prices for other things he does for me...

Ecosse,
You can also just paint the ones you have with a two-stage caliper paint without disassembling the brakes. It's not the job taking a caliper apart and powdercoating would be, but for $40 it's worth a try. We've had very good luck with this product.
If anything, you can at least see what the alternate color looks like. Check it out......

I used that paint on a 2000 Corvette C5 to make the calipers red. I will say that the paint is very durable and did not fade at all. However, the paint is put on with a brush and it's very thick (it dries quickly which means you have to work quickly and it will get thicker before you can finish all 4 brakes). This was fine for the Corvette because the calipers had a very rough finish on the metal of the calipers and it hid the less than perfect paint job. But the Porsche calipers are smooth and will show all the brush strokes and variances in paint thickness. So I don't think it will look as good.
But it might be worth a try before going the powder coat method if you are a skillful paint brusher, because it's cheap and can be done without removing anything but the wheel and masking the rest off. If it doesn't look good, just send them off to be blasted clean anyway since that's most likely what they were going to do to the original black paint anyway.
Would like to see close up/well lit/hi-res pics of somebody's Porsche calipers painted with this paint, if they exist...
