Unhappy New a new windshield

Stone hit the windshield and cracked it. Can anyone recommend a dealer in the NY metro region to replace it?

you want porsche part only since the radio antenna is built into the windshield. this may be 2x the normal ppg glass but i wouldn't risk getting poor radio reception.

Without knowing the extent of the crack, do you think it could be repaired? Depending on the size and nature of the crack, it's amazing what a good glass repair man can do these days. If so, you would save big $$$ and avoid potential damage to the vehicle and strange noises around there from the work.

Small cracks around a couple of inches long can be repaired but you must do it quickly before it gets bigger. Autoparts store sell glass repair kits for $10 that puts resin into the crack to fill it up and make it virtually disappear. It's an easy process to do yourself. Glass repair shop won't do any repair on cracks in driver's direct vision due to law suit reason.

Bulls eyes can be easily repaired the same way as well.

If you've got a big crack, you'll want to replace it for safety reason.

I heard from my very knowledgeable and chatty window repair guy that you should never use the $10 kits.

He says they are not the same stuff as what the pro's use and once you use them, a pro can not do anything to fix it. The pro's use an untraviolet light they bring with them, and the kits use the sun... I believe him.

Carbonissimo, thanks for asking -- the car is doing great. It has the new wheels on the car as you have probably seen, and I love them for the money. I just picked up a GT3 mk1 wing that will be here next week, and a PSE is on the way too, along with some bezel rings. The only thing left would be the bumper and side skirts, but I'll wait to see how the wing looks without them. I saw one advertized with no body kit and the same wing in the same color, and it looked pretty darn good... There are a couple of other little things I am wondering about the car that may just be the way 996's are...I'll post on them later. Thanks again for checking out the car!

It's a resin that fills the crack. UV is what cures the resin and a UV light will accelerate the cure where as a sunny day may take slightly longer. It's really not complicated -- a repairer doesn't make it disappear either, only hide it and prevent it from getting bigger which is what the kit does also.
