Engine swap alternative....V8

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3GXpKRTCIw

Well, I guess we now have an alternative engine to put in our car. LS3 V8 in our 996. Awesome power.
I know they have many conversions for the early 911 aircooled, but now they have it for the 996.
Thought??

I'd consider this if my engine blew.

Cheers

Very interesting, when a 911 motor goes for 15 grand, this may be a great alternative.

Just got off the phone with Scott from renegade. Apparently I'm the first person that actually inquired about the conversion. He was literraly on another line getting final prices for the part for the kit. Okay, so this is what the price is going to be..bit still could change.
The mechanical kit is $4000 includes adaptor, flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, brackets for alternate , AC, pw, lines, etc....no power stering pump..its a Toyota part that is easily accessible. The gauges will have to be sent to him for re calibration..cost for that is $1500. What I forgot to ask him was the exhaust. Don't know if that comes with the kit.
So...
$4000 for kit to bolt on to trans.
$1500 calibration of gauges.
$???? Exhaust
$5000 ish Complete LS3 engine with ecu and harness...
Then sell my running engine and recoup some cash....really considering this...

Question

if my engine blew and this ends up being cheaper than a rebuild or another engine, then why not? i'm not sure why people say they'd never taint their 911 with a GM engine, but come on -- at least you dont have to worry about IMS failures anymore!

taint

1. a trace of something bad, offensive, or harmful.

2. a trace of infection, contamination, or the like.

3. a trace of dishonor or discredit.

Would never do this... Screwes up weight dirstibution, genter of gravity.

Additionally to this, I couldn't handle my 911 sounding like a Pick up Truck....

Weight distribution shouldn't be too bad. From what I gather the 3.4 weighs about 440-480 lbs and the LS3 weighs about 415. The center of gravity may raise a little but with the LS's light aluminum heads and composite intake it shouldn't be too bad. It may be a wash.

While I would consider this option if I found a cheap 996 with no or a bad engine I wouldn't pull a good engine from my 996 when I get one. I have an LS6 in my Z so I want a different feel and sound in the 996.
