Engine Cleaning/Shampoo

I always think that a vehicle, whether it be a car, boat or motorcycle, runs better with a clean engine... agree or not... they certainly look better.

In the old days it didn't seem so hard to find a guy with a steam cleaning service that would give the engine compartment a good once over but with the newer engines and all the electrical components I am a little wary.

Has anyone cleaned their 996 engine bay and have any recommendations to products, techniques, or do's and don'ts?

Cheers....

Just do it with a pressure water hose and bleach. If the engine stops running, just replace it with a new one

Actually pretty easy to do.
1- cover radiator with plastic
2- spray WD-40 on wires
3- apply engine degreaser, wait 20 min, remove with water, repeat as needed
4- air dry engine or let dry but make sure there are no excess water or deposits before next step
5- apply engine detailer on everything black i.e., air filter cover, hoses, etc
6- clear radiator
7- wait about 1 hr before starting up engine

I use Meguiar's engine cleaner and detailer.

Hope it helps.

I have used simple green. Spray it on heavy and everything. Cover the inlet to the air box with a plastic bag and tape it tight. But you got me lost on the radiator. Its up front not in the engine bay. Let trhe simple green soak for 20 minutes and use a pressure washer to rinse.

Shops don't do it anymore due to all the Environmental laws..
they would have to store that waste water and have some company remove it as hazardous waste.which would cost a fortune.
