996 first time owner questions (Also question for Chicagoans)
Hey guys... Potential owner here. I've done a lot of reading and a lot of searching so I hope I'm not just asking the same old questions.
I'm looking for a 02+ C4S Cabriolet. Are there a lot of improvements (other than the additional power) for the 02' model year cars?
Speed-wise, is the 3.6 noticeably faster than the 3.4?
How well does the engine react to modifications and are there many for the non-turbo engine? I prefer the non-turbo engine if possible and would like to get it to about 350 hp at the crank.
What are realistic 1/4 mile times for these cars? I realize they're not built for drag racing but I know how fast my current toy car is and am trying to compare it to that. I've seen magazine times from the low 13's to high 13's. My fun car right now is mid 12's but I'm happy to sacrifice some speed for a better driving car (my current toy car is a turbo 3800 Grand Prix).
Most importantly, is there anyone in Chicago that would mind giving me a ride? It doesn't have to be a cabriolet. I just want to get a feel for the car, it's overall speed level, etc.

Starting with 320 crank and depending on how you calculate haha...340-350 at the crank is possible. Plenum, intake, software, full exhaust...it'll easily run you a supercharger price though..
40th anniversary 996 has 345hp from factory. you can too with X51.
although the mk2 has a 3.6L w/ 20 hp more, it also weighs about 25 kg more. the C4S adds another 70 kg more weight on top of the C2 mk2.
Official times
1999 996 C2 4.9 (0-62mph) 13.4
2004 996 C4S 5.1 (0-62mph)
2004 996 40th 4.9 (0-62mph) 13.1
This is assuming you're mostly interested in straight line speed.

I installed the k&n intake already and only noticed a depper sound about 5-6 g rpm, not really noticeable torque but any recommendations on exhaust versus bypass pipes?

its do-able, but its not really worth it. x51 option is your best bet, but if you cant find one, then it'll take plenum, intake, software, headers, x-pipe, mufflers to get to 350hp and you'll end up with a very loud car (which most of us like anyway)
