Did it myself, it's very easy. Run a cigarette lighter plug that you buy at Radio Shack hidden under the dash and wire it into a fuse and ground the only powers up with the ignition key on. Run the power cord from the GPS to the new hidden accessory plug you just installed under the dash.
Grab hold of one of the CD storage slots in the CD storage tray and pull it out. The unit will pull right out same with the storage nook. The Megellan will fit right in the opening but you've got to do some careful cutting of the foam behind the leather side panels to get that custom look we have. I filled in the 1/2 inch of open space on the bottom with black foam weather stripping I pick up at Ace Hardware.
This was by far one of the best easiest Mods I've done thanks to my buddy Tarek.

Awesome idea! I love creative, inexpensive solutions like this, very nicely done. You should do a step by step write-up and submit it to the DIY section, we can always use write-ups for good projects like these.
Here is what I did to achieve a similar effect (have seamless nav in the car without disturbing the stock Bose). I like yours way better though, looks much more integrated.

Very nice. I starting using my iPhone as a gps/navi replacement device to see if it was up to the task for an iPad mini install. Unfortunately a lot of expressways and interchanges in Tokyo are far underground with no gps or cell tower signal. My inbuilt (rubbish at most other things) pioneer navi system has 3d gyroscope position magic something that still provides accurate position and directions 100's feet underground. I don't think I can do this mod unless tablet/iPad apps use the internal sensors to calculate position.
