Would you purchase this???

Hello everyone. Thanks in advance for your comments.

I am thinking about purchasing a 2000 Carrera Cab with 100k miles.
The following has been done:

new rod bearings
new main bearings
new rod bolts
new intermediate shaft bearing and upgraded shaft
new chain rails horse shoe and saddle
new cam chain rail repair kit
valve job
new water pump
new oil filter
new gaskets including updated rms
newer breakpads
newer sensors
newer rotors
newer tires
warranty on rebuild for 6 months or 6k miles

I am buying it from the shop that did the work for $17k. Shop is really small and unknown in porsche community

interior and exterior is in good condition.

what do you guys think

any suggestions to mechanic in long beach ca area to do ppi

thanks

Yikes - that`s a lot of work! "Sensors" is a little vague. Is the shop going to warranty that total engine rebuild? If not, run away. If so, for how long?

If the shop has a good reputation and the full PPI checks out, then I would seriously consider it.

Personally I would not touch a 996 with an engine rebuilt. There are better ones out there near $20k range..

Sounds like you should run. Good thing you got the PPI.

Rebuild and Reman

I replaced the engine in my 2001 Carrera in 2008 for $8,100 and core exchange. That engine has held up well in what is now my dedicted track car. My local guy, Lutzo with LMN in Va Beach, just replaced a 2000 engine which now goes for $16,800 and core exchange! So certainly be cautious about any older engine rebuild done by someone unknown and possiblity of damage to that engine which would make a core exchange not possible.
