Got Clay'd on Saturday LOL....amazing

So I had just finished washing my car last Saturday and I noticed the "Mothers Clay Kit/System" that I got for a stocking stuffer during Christmas, so I thought - sure, why the hell not. (Crystal Cove was dead - only good car was a Saleen S7).

Background info: I've had my SY 02' 996 for just over a year, 11K miles and I hadn't waxed, polished, or clayed it since I bought it....just washed every week or so. I have no detailing background, but have washed every one of my own cars LOL.

Quick Summary:

Products included in the kit:
Mothers Showtime Mist / (this is just like Mequiars Quick Detailer)
Mothers Clay
Mothers Wax Cleaner

Products I used:
Mothers Showtime Mist
Mothers Clay
3M Polish
3M Wax

Time spent:
4 hours
(wash/dry, clay, polish, wax)

Clay:
Easier to use than I thought - just be sure to keep the car wet with the quick detailer/mist. I worked one panel at a time and was surprised how much the clay picked up, who would have thought that I had that many contaminents in the paint! I consistently re-pressed the clay as per the instructions. Since my car is yellow, I'm sure I get away with more here than the average color.

Polish:
After the clay, I wiped down each panel with a terry cloth towel - but noticed swirl marks (I've owned 3 black cars previously, so I hate these!) I went with a 3M polish that I've used for years.

Wax:
Self explanatory, after the polish, I went for the wax to hopefully prevent from having to do this every month - the clay and polish really gave the paint a buttery smooth texture (better than when I bought it!) so I wanted to protect it w/a solid coat of wax.

Review:
I'm no expert detailer, but have used a lot of products on a lot of cars, I'd have to say that claying a car makes worlds of difference!! Most bang for the buck IMO if your car isn't brand new....easy to do - just be careful, somewhat time consuming, but hey - it's our passion right? So for now, I love my car all over again....hahaha. Hopefully this will tide me over until Arling calls w/my next mod.

If you haven't been clay'd, I'd definitely recommend it.

No pics (car has been garaged since) - it's supposed to rain here tomorrow (boo!) thru Friday so I'll take some pics (hopefully after Crystal Cove)...

Jeff - when your car is finished I'll come down to Cerritos and help you clay yours!

Kirb - LOL, thankfully I haven't had to touch a babies butt yet...so can't compare, but it is damn smooth. hahaha.

Joe - just don't get it messy LOL.
