Dash Switch Electrical Question

I'm in the process of adding Sirius Sat Radio and Ipod connectivity to my 04 C4S Bose system and have elected to go with a high-end FM modulator to get the signal into the crazy proprietary MOST Bose system. I'll be using this until the direct wired solution through the CD changer is made available later this year (I'll believe it when I see it).

The FM Modulator uses a switch to power it on and disconnect the regular antenna from the head unit, thus making it cleaner to get a clear FM signal into the unit. It's just a regular single pole single throw (SPST) switch that I'd like to change with a dash mounted Porsche switch. The only problem is that most of the Porsche switches are momentary contact switches (which, I could use, but I'd have to emply an in-line relay to make it work properly). Does anyone know if there are any other dash switches that would fit in the horseshoe around the stereo/HVAC that are real (ie non momentary) switches to connect the circuit, and then (upon a second hit of the switch) disconnect the circuit?

I'm thinking that maybe the central lock switch or the rear defog switches... Any ideas?

Thanks

I can tell you the footwell switch is not what you're looking for. Good luck in the search, I'm pretty sure they're all momentary and run into relays...none of the switches feel like they lock in place or appear to be robust enough to handle continuous high amp current (like a rear defrost would need).

Jmac--I tried the powered FM modulator install on my '04 C4S cab. My unit came with a small toggle switch which fit neatly into a cutout in the back of my storage cubby. Unfortunately there was a huge amount of interference from the ignition when the car was running, so I removed everything and gave up. Let me know how you make out. I for one have tried every modulator known to man without success....

The FM modulator in my XM2GO is powered internally, no noise, works great. You can work it like a walkman, take it everywhere, no headphone wires since it goes through any stereo. I have it save 5 hours of my favorite station at night, then listen to it when I can during the day, skipping the songs I don't like.

You're lucky because you're in a small town. In my area (NYC) there are so many powerful radio signals that every frequency overpowers the FM modulator--trust me, I've had 5 or six.

Bavarian - I'm ordering the Rosen NV3000 FM Modulator - did you try this one?

Thanks!

as for the Ipod hookup, i wouldn't recommend a fm modulator.. reception is pretty bad, what makes the quality of the music bad too. I would recommend the icelink! http://www.dension.com/icelink_info.htm check it out!

GreggT - thanks...

lpetersen - unfortunately, ICELINK won't work with an '03 or greater BOSE car with MOST. At this point the only way to get an aux-in of any kind is through FM modulation. I hope this is only temporary, as (I hear) a wired solution is planned to be released which will connect through the CD changer...

I'm putting a third party head unit in the one DIN space I've got available (where the CD holders are) which will automatically give me full iPod control as well as SIRIUS...

Thanks

Jmac--First of all, your car is beautiful! I particularly like the full aluminum package center stack with the silver A/C control etc.
The hard-wired modulator I tried came from Crutchfield (I forget the brand) and was supposed to be the best they had. I would be willing to try the Rosen. Can you let me know where I can get it and for how much? All based on the assumption that it works for you once you get it installed...

Jmac,
Like you, I'm struggling to add XM and Ipod capabilities. Please let us know if you have success with the FM modulator.

I really like the PCM and other center equipment in that look. From the pictures it looks like the colors match the Alu vents very well. Is the color true Porsche Alu or Arctic Silver? Do you mind sharing where you purchased the faces and bezels?

Thanks.
