My first....

Well its been a dream for a long time. I have had it for 2 weeks and I am in love! Its a 2000 and looks perfect inside and out. Although I may not have done enough homework before I bought it. I didn't know anything about the IMS bearing problems until I started visiting these forums. I'm freekin out a little.

Congratulations! Looks good, is that arena red? As with any new to you used car you should change the oil as soon as possible & cut open the oil filter to look for solid particles, usually this is the 1st warning if the IMS bearing is failing. If you search rennlist.com 996 forum it has good info for preventitive maintainence

Nice ride. Congrats. I was in your shoes a few months ago and just had the ims replaced. Now I just drive it like I stole it ;-)

Benvenidos. You did not indicate the current mileage. Generally, if the 996 exceeds 40K without IMS issues, it will survive. The perfect time to address the IMS issue is when you apply it's first clutch rebuild (~60K mi). I am currently at 49K (99 996) with no issues whatsover. Nonetheless, an IMS upgrade will be included at my first clutch rebuild. Good luck.

Miles

Thanks guys!
It has almost 39000 and I changed the oil and ripped open the oil filter last weekend. It was clean. Now I'm wondering if I used the wrong oil (Mobil1 o-40)

Beautiful car! I have a 2000 in a very similar color combo with 90k on the clock. Just get the IMS upgrade when you get a new clutch, I will be doing it very soon.

Welcome. Fellow Land of Lincoln 911 owner lol. anyways, at 39000 thats not bad at all but to be REALLY safe, do the clutch/rms/ims replacement and drive it happily. Depending where you are, I'm sure we can recommend you a shop to trust. ENJOY and see you around. btw, you need to lower and throw some wheels on it asap!
