99 new tip transmission - Techart or not Techart?
99 new tip transmission - Techart or not Techart?
Well, after a year of the trannie acting up, I decided to replace it. I have a brand new one coming from Germany (through my mechanic) and will arrive in a couple of weeks. Cost, including installation and Porsche warranty (1 or 2 years not sure), about $8,200 including taxes.
I looked into rebuilt alternatives from vertes and freddies'... but you do not save more than 3k and if something goes wrong, they will honor the warranty but you incur in shipping costs and mechanic costs again. So I played it safe.
As I was building an original Techart kit for the 99-01 years, and I have it sitting in the garage (including brand new bumper out of the box, you can't find them), skirts, winglet, springs, horseshoe silver, batwing silver, gauge cluster cover silver, face gauges silver, clock buttons aluminum (not techart), airbox carbon cover (yes "made by techart"), pedals, techart 99 exhaust tips, plus a black 3-spoke oem steering tip wheel and like new oem mufflers ready for conversion ... I might decide to sell all of this to offset cost of transmission. Or keep financing my mechanic through other means
For the record, I have not seen any car like this "alive" in the US. Saw one in France, and nothing else.

Well pics of parts would be a start to gauge interest. If there are no serious offers then keep and enjoy having a rare 996 once it's all said and done.
Fwiw, I once sold off some very rare pieces for a BMW which I'll never do again unless it is to feed my children. However I still have a full Zender e30 aerokit in my stash awaiting for a future car.

yeah, not sure yet, if I decide to sell, will post pics and so forth. But your commend on not selling is what my gut feeling keeps telling me, that I'll regret it later.

Are u saying ur going to have the only 99-01 techart 911 in the US ?... I've seen plenty of mk1 with body kits and all done up ... Including my own , if your spending the money on the trans ... Seems like its going to be around for a while so I would go ahead with ur original plans
Ended up getting new transmission, picking car up tomorrow.
Hey Omar, not sure if "it is the only one", but I know that I still have to see a car with the original mkI bumper 99 bumper. Yours is an adaptation of the popular post '03 bumper. The 99-01 bumper is hard to come by, and expensive... and subtle. I have seen cars with the skirts, wings, and with the two add-ons for the front bumper, like this one http://sharkwerks.com/porsche/996-ca...c-exhaust.html
but still have to see/meet someone with the original full 99 Techart bumper. I'd love to, though
. This is the bumper I am talking about and of course works for 996 and Boxsters as they same front, made out of Purim:

If somebody has it, pls post pics, mine is still sitting in box waiting to be installed

Just saw this , I think the reason u haven't seen that bumper on any are for 2 reasons , 1 it's too expensive , and 2 it's not very good looking IMO , but it's your car k I think the bumper looks outdated and cheap .
Well post some pix when it's done , I'm sure ull see right away what ppl think

I will post pics
. It is less flashy, and yes a bit outdated if you compare to newer cars. Of course, is a 13 year old design! Not trying to have a new car. Also, it was only made for a front that lasted 3 years, and due to the similarities with the Boxster at the time, many people do facelifts. I almost did before deciding to keep the car true to what it is. To each their own.
Expensive, well is Techart. Try to find another bumper made out of Purim/Urethane and with wind tunnel design time on it. None.
Anyway, the threat called for opinions on whether I should sell the kit to offset cost of new tip.

And who might that be? really, looking for somebody with the front bumper but had not found anybody. side skirts yes. rear, yes. partial front bumper, yes. but not the one piece front bumper. When I say that mine is the only one... I would think there must be somebody out there!
