Whoa...what a difference alignment makes.

Please keep in mind that I'm not a seasoned track driver or autocrosser- simply a moderately aggressive driver at times who's been driving modified cars on the streets, canyons and open roads for 12 years now, I'd say I have more ***** than actual technical experience and driver know how....which can be dangerous, but at least I'm aware of it LOL.

Lucent includes 2 alignments with coilover install so my first setup was "aggressive" with 1.8 degrees negative camber and some toe-in to allow me to enjoy the new coilover setup and see what the car could do. When I came in for the second alignment I asked Tom to set it back up to a more conservative alignment for tire wear, but to still wanted to have that confidence through the twisties - he asked a few questions about how the car "felt" in my opinion and then made the appropriate adjustments.

So I took the 996 out for a "spirited" run through the back roads of Irvine to Villa Park (on the way to eat dinner at a friends) and WOW...the new alignment setup that Tom @ Lucent set me up with is the best yet. Solid through the corners, especially at full throttle (where I had previously felt uncomfortable) and especially when exiting a turn. High speed stability has vastly improved as well...or maybe I just feel better in the GT3 seats LOL.

Anyways, just another quick thumbs up to Lucent...for continuing to make my car more enjoyable.

Nice write-up, Albert. Thanks for sharing.

If you don't mind me asking, do you know the settings Lucent adjusted for you the second time around? I also feel somewhat uncomfortable around corners and sounds like you have found the perfect combination!

You go to LA for alignment? Or do they have an Orange county shop?

I don't know off hand, I know that it is close to "GT3" spec although I had more neg. camber than usual since the adjustments have more tolerance on a GT3. I'll ask Tom @ Lucent for the specs next time I'm there - they even have people calling in from other states to ask for help with alignment specs, now that's a testament to Lucent's know how.

Yep, 50+ miles just for an alignment, but well worth it...

Bumble, if it is possible, could you post the actual numbers that Tom used for your second alignment? I'd like to drive there too but seeing as I am in Michigan, 2500 miles seems a little far. Although, the Rocky mountains would certainly offer enough twists and turns for the ride back.

Albert,
YOu just brought back fond memories for me...I moved from OC in 96...Funny thing was I grew up in Villa Park driving those very same turns you are talking about every weekend... I used to dream that my piece of Sh@t VW or Honda was a Porsche... I'll have to get back up there one day soon...

For fun you need to try and get back behind VP and OPA to get the tight hairpin autocross like turns though... Talk about a rush!

Paul
