Hey adelaide,

Did you remove the two bumpers around the license plate? I have a 2001 996 and in the process of painting my rear bumper. I might remove them.

There's more to it than just removing the bumperettes. There are metal supports underneath them that are welded directly to the bumper on US spec cars. You'll have to have those cut off first, then you can purchase a Euro spec bumper cover or fill the holes in your bumper cover.

I was thinking about this just the other day and I think the reflector strip does play into it a little. Anyone R&Ding an LED tail light will need to make sure their red lens color matches the factory reflector strip. Or else it'll look way, way worse. And if you've noticed, most LED tail lights nowadays (factory or aftermarket) use a richer "crystal" shade of red. That wouldn't work for us.

Dennis, thanks for your comments on removing the bumperettes. I might just paint instead of removing them.

I was going to suggest that. Good choice.

I'm actually considering having mine painted too. It really updates the look of the car.

Howdy - yep as per previous posts the Australian cars don't have the bumper things around the licence plates.

Your cheapest option would probably be to buy an AU/EU rear bumper cover...

Found these guys on a google search for the Dectane LEDs.
http://www.revoms.com/store/rear-led-taillights-for-porsche-997-1/
They’re in Northern California and are planning to offer these lights in July. I emailed them about a possible group buy for 6speeders. Here’s the latest info:
“We are shooting for a group buy on the Dectane/DEPO 996 LED tail lights, to be held in the month of July, with tentative pricing in the $550 - $575 range (before shipping and tax if applicable), with a lower price range if there are more than 15 participants.

We have held group buys on other Porsche parts through our Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/revoms), and would likely do the same for the group buy on these taillights. We don't want to limit non-Facebook users from participating though, so we're also open to input from potential customers.”

On the 997 threads, these guys also sold the LED tail lights for the 997.1 when they first came out last year. Seems like a great domestic option, much cheaper than carlightpro, and more convenient than overseas guys in case of warranty issues.

I just received an email from David from Revolution Motorsports. They are indeed doing a group buy at a "significant discount" in July and he suggested to "like" them on Facebook and keep checking for the announcement.

I'm in pending the price. $550 + tax + shipping doesnt seem cheaper than pitlane, it might actually cost more.

I love these lights tho and am in in the group buy price is a deal!
