So i do face some gearing problem when putting into 3rd from 2nd mostly when quick shifting. I have to pull back and try again. I have the 996 stock shifter. I know that 996 has a notchy gearbox, so should i upgrade it or there is something else that should be replaced?

 

When is the last time you changed your tranny fluid?

 

i havent since bought it, last summer. Probably more than a year.

 

Considering that the previous owner might not have done that for a while either, give it a try. When draining also see it there are small metal parts coming out with the fluid, as that is usually an indicator of transmission wear.

I've know people who fixed their issue by changing the fluid. However, it might also be your syncro rings that are worn out. Considering the costs of dropping the engine & transmission and dismantling the transmission, changing the fluid is worth a shot.

 

i have noticed that 3rd gear is a little more stubborn than other gears as well.
