Ignition problems..Symptoms

Help! Having difficulty removing or inserting my key into the ignition. Once it's in, car runs fine except wipers don't work, a/c nothing comes out but display appears to be working. When I got home and removed the key the system alerted me that key was still in the ignition. Is it the ignition switch? I have an extended warranty that I never used and might go ahead and use it. Replacement of switch doesn't appear to difficult. Thanks for any advice. Was told TRE in North Hollywood does excellent work? Agree? Thanks.

I had the same issue a few months back. I ignored the issue until the ignition key could not be inserted. Luckily, my P-car was in my driveway. Replace the ignition switch before it completely fails. Your symptoms indicate failure is inevitable. The part is cheap: http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/..._pg1.htm#item3 . I applied the DIY. An easy DIY on paper, but it's placement made it extremely difficult to address, and time consuming. Apply your warranty. Good luck.

I got same problem on my 2000 Boxster. But my question is if change ignition switch. Do I have to replace the new car key? Or use my existing one? Thx.

Hi, no reason to change the key. The switch is located "behind" the key. I bought the ignitionswitch for 40$ from Audi in Norway, probably half the price in the States. Same switch for Porsche, Audi and VW.

Here is the DIY that i used: http://www.renntech.org/forums/tutor...with-pictures/

Had the same problem here. After you start the car, you can also turn the key back slightly to the left (counter clockwise) and your AC and other accessories should work. This will buy you some time until you can get it fixed.

+1 what Gonzo said, move the key slightly to the left, and it will turn the accessories (a/c, etc.,) back on. It is definitely the ignition switch, get the Audi part, it's not very expensive and not too hard to replace from what I hear.

Good luck!

Ingnition problem

Replaced ignition switch and solved the key issue. Accessories still don't work. No a/c, headlights or wipers. Any suggestions?

When it comes to anything electrical, the first fix I attempt is a battery reset. Disconnect the battery for a few minutes. And, hopefully that will remedy your issue. Good luck.
